dem European museums e.g.the new Royal Belgian Natural History Museum in Brussels. It is essential that the collection he kept constantly in an air-conditioned room; if the conditioning can he regulated automatically, there is a considerable saving of power. Merely a few days without air-conditioning in the rainy season may cause irreparable damage to the collection. The boxes must be virtually airtight and stored in cabinets to keep out dust and pests. The bottom lining of the boxes should also be carefully selected.Genuine cork effects the pins by its acidity, foam boards do not tolerate any organic compounds, including paradichlorbenzene. Manufactured and chemically treated plates of cork (moll), turf or paper turned out to be the best for the purpose. According to my experiences in Ghana, the white insect pins are more sensitive to unfavourable conditions than the black steel ones. The latter are unaffected by the fat of the insect body and less effected by the residual acidity of the box lining. On the other hand, both can be affected by humid conditions . Description of Localities 1. Abofour: Ashanti region N. 7.07, W. 1.48, Alt.: 1,050 ft (320 m) . Semideciduous forest zone. Only a few miles from the settlement, there is situated the big Opro river forest reserve, with a resthouse in an open area (site of the light collections). The high forest is in a good condition, in some places close to original, though some tree-falling is conducted under the supervision of the Forestry Department (collections on timber depots). In the time of our visit, several high forest trees dropped their ripe fruits, attracting a considerable variety of insects.
