cant. The proportion of the latter in county Békés and Haj du is more than twice greater than that of the short flying animals; in county Pest bivoltine long flying species were to he found in a smaller, and in county Szolnok in a considerably smaller proportion than the short flight, summer wild bees. One of the essential reasons of the great proportion of the long flight bivoltine species in counties Békés and Haj du is that the lucerne in these counties were blooming later than in counties Szolnok and Pest; that is to say that the flying of the bivoltine long flying wild bees culminates later, in the second half of the summer, whereas the short flight summer species are flying in masses in mid-summer (BENEDEK, 1968). In counties Szolnok and Pest the blooming of the lucerne takes place in an earlier period (fore and mid-July), wherefore the proportion of the short flight species in somewhat larger, or nearly the same as that of the long flight bivoltine animals. The proportion of the long flight continuously breeding pollinators is rather low in all the four counties, whereas in counties Hajdu and Pest - due to reason explained before - they can be found in greater quantities than in counties Szolnok and Békés. II. Bistribution of wild bees in lucerne fields Plant growers have long since spoken about „border—effect" which they have ascribed to the distribution of the pollinators. In the course of our work we have chosen 1 m 2 plots both on the border and in the middle of the fields. The plots were then marked by strings spanned between four stakes. The strings placed about 10 cm above the lucerne did not disturbed the flight of the wild bees. The so chosen 1 m 2 plots were then observed by us between 9 and 17 o'clock, I.e.: on the border for 20 minutes past the hour, and in the middle from 20 minutes to the hour to the hour, noting of course the number of wild bees flying into the plot marked. This may we have gained within each hour data from both the border and the middle of the field. The data so recorded are summarized In the Table No. 4.
