A STAG FROM MYCENAF. 93 1 Fig. 12 Late Helladic IIIB. (1:3) 35. (Fig. lie) Rim fragment from a FS 257 kylix. From Corinthia W. D. rim 16.2; H. 3; pres. W. 4.5 cm. Fine fabric with no inclusions. Fracture: core 5YR 7/3 pink; near surfaces 10YR 8/4 very pale brown; slipped on interior and exterior 10YR 7/3 - 8/3 very pale brown; lustrous, fugitive 7.5YR 3/4 - 5YR 4/4 dark brown to reddish brown paint. Decoration: Upper part of a FM 23 vertical whorl-shell motif curving to the right. LH IIIA2 Late. On the basis of the rim diameter the fragment belongs to the larger sized variant of the shape, M DP 89-90. Fhe whorl-shell motif corresponds to the type seen in French 1965, 178, Fig. 6, b. The motif can be grouped in a row placed in regular intervals, or it can be combined with other patterns, e.g. flower placed in the centre and flanked by the vertical whorl-shells, FRENCH ibid. 179. Cf. Thebes, SYMEONOGLOU 1973, K69, Fig. 195-196. 36. (Fig. 12a) FS 258(B) kylix stem. Unknown provenance. H. 6.8 cm. Fine fabric with a few small white grits. Fracture: core 7.5YR 7/4 pink, near surfaces 2.5YR 6/4 light reddish brown; slipped 10YR 7/4 very pale brown; lustrous IOYR 4/6 red paint. Decoration: horizontal banding. Three narrow line above, three broader bands below with the beginning of the fourth. LH HIB I .
