István Vörös: A Denevér úti kovabánya agancsleletei (Budapest-Farkasrét)
96 ISTVÁN VÖRÖS The juvenile antlers originate from 2-3 years old stags. The antler with the skull fragment belongs to a game animal, which was killed most probably at the end of summer. 6. The age of mining activity in the Denevér street flint mine To determine the age of mining activity in the flint mine radiocarbon data and the results of the studies made on the finds are at our disposal; first of all the comparison of these two groups of data seems to be important. 6.1. Radiocarbon data On the 5 t h of June 1985 Ringer, Árpád collected charcoal remains from the upper A level, 85/4-5. surface from the neighbourhood of antlers 62.-64. where there were "numerous flint flakes". They were the only charcoal finds in the mine. They were analyzed in Groningen: GrN 15567 40.350 ± 950 BP In 1986 age determination investigation vere made on antler in Bern, Switzerland. The analyzed pieces was the fragment of a so-called sporadic antler find, an antler stem fragment. Its topografical place is unknown. В 4709 3470 ± 80 BP 19 Further radiocarbon data from flint mines in Hungary: 2 0 Tata-Kálváriadomb Hv 1770 3810 ± 65 BO Sümeg-Mogyorósdomb A 246 4520 ± 160 BP Hv 11611 4840 ±110 BP Hv 11610 5960 ± 95 BP 6.2. Finds 6.2.1. "Middle Paleolithic tool " On the 21 t h of June 1984 a (Mousterian type) broken scraper was found on the lower С level, 84/3. surface, near the antler 42. 2 1 Other flakes characteristic of the same period were collected from the mining field. 3.2.2. The raw material Even Gábori-Csánk, Vera, the leader of the excavations emphasized that the mined flint of extremely poor quality was unsuitable to make Upper Paleolithic or Neolithic type blades of it. So why was the flint mined? Or maybe the tools made of the material were removed from the mine. It seems fairly possible. As GáboriCsánk, Vera, herself has formulated, in spite of its great extension the Denevér street fling mine was not a workshop 2 2 and this is corroborated also by T. Bíró, Katalin' s investigations, who demonstrated that the raw material of the mine was used in the neihgbourhood of Budapest in the Late Copper Age/Early Bronze Age. 2 3 6.2.3. Л pottery fragment from the Arpadian age On the 20 t h of June 1985 during the removal of the debris of the past winter two 12 t h century potsherds were found. A find of similar age is known from the No. III. extraction pit of the Tata-Kálváriadomb flint mine. 24 6.2.4 Mollusca find On the 5 t h of May 1985 a mollusca was found in the lower С level, 85/7. surface from the neighbourhood of antler 78. It was determined by Krolopp, Endre. It is a Zebrina detrita ( Müll .): He notes that the age of this layer is young Holocene 1 9 Gábori -Csánk 1989. 21. 2 0 Bácskay 1986, 13-15. 2 1 Nature 1984, 310. 30.
