CHRONOLOGY OF THE MAMMALIAN FAUNA OF THE SOLYMÁR CAVE- SOLYMÁR A 5.1. Middle Pleistocene Dark red clay layer, localities A/2 — A/7a — A/8 The "Praeglacial mammalian fauna" was determined by M. Kretzoi at first as an "Interglacial RISS fauna with antiquus" 2 3. When L. Vértes described the "WÜRM" fauna from the Denevér terem (A/5), he also considered the "Praeglacial" fauna to be of RISS 2 4. Those charcoal remains which found in the light grey Iyer of the Kiskörút (A/7b) J. Stieber — referring to M. Kretzoi — also put into the RISS I — II. Interstadial 2 5. In 1953 M. Kretzoi put the Solymár fauna into the 3rd Fauna Wave (Stage) of the Pleistocene Vertebrate Biostratigraphy 2 6. The Solymár Fauna Phase was described and characterized by D. Jánossy in 1969. According to him the Solymár Phase was within the Steinheimium/Oldenburgian Stage, between the Fauna Phases Uppony and Süttő, at the end of the RISS 2 7. Later he put it into a sensu lato MINDELRISS-RISS period of the Middle Pleistocene 2 8. H.D. Kahlke was the first who put the Solymár fauna, into the MINDEL— RISS interglacial 2 9. Later its age determination had changed as follows: at first it was by M. Kretzoi put into the Upper Pleistocene Oldenburgian Substage same MINDEL — RISS interglacial of the new terrestric biostratigraphical-geochronological system, i.e. into the Steinheimium (or Solymár) Substage with warm climate 3 0, later into the first or lower Solymárium (Olden2 3 Kretzoi 1946. 2 4 On the basis of M.
