István Vörös: A Solymári barlang középső pleisztocén emlősfaunája
55 burgian) n. st. — Substage of the Pilisium-Peribaltikum Stage. Thus M. Kretzoi made parallel the interglacial fauna of the Solymár Cave to the MINDEL — RISS needium 3 1. The warm forest fauna of Solymár Cave can be characterized by the dominant occurence of Arvicolida-Cricetida\ in it the quantity of Microtus surpasses that of Pitymys , among Microtus remains M. arvalis is dominant. The Mi mo my s is absent; characteristic species are Mus ( Buda my s ), Apodemus very large form of Sorex; the bat fauna is of "old type" 3 2. The Alee s latifrons , Alee s brevirostris , Bison schoetensacki ssp., Canis lupus mosbaehensis which are chronological indicator species, large Ursus and I^ulpes forms are species characteristic of the Biharian Stage. The "Merck"-Rhinoceros remains determined Dieerorhinus kirchbergetisis are frequent fauna elements of the Upper Biharian and Oldenburgian Substage; they are indifferent fauna elements from the viewpoint of the age determination of the Solymár fauna. The large predators and the horse are absent from the macromammal fauna; the material available us so far does not contain either arctic elements or those Artiodactyla species 3 3, which are characteristic of the RISS —SAALE. The Alimomys which is characteristic of the Lower Biharian Substage is already missing, though the bat fauna is still of "old type" 3 4. The fauna of the Solymár Cave falls s.l. under the period between Lower Biharian and RISS — WÜRM — EEM. It is the task of further research to decide whether the exact place of the fauna 3 5. 5.2 Upper Pleistocene Yellowish grey/light brown/red clay layers, localities A/5 —A/7b Both vertebrate material and the botanical and mollusc remains contain definitely young, modern elements 3 6. The vertebra fauna of the Denevér Hall (A/5) has a stadial character; while that of the Solymár B/l — Cleft is of interstadial character (Table 4.). It is the task of further research to decide whether the faunas belong still to the RISS or already into the Wt'RM periods. 3 0 Kret Zoi-Pécsi 1979, 26, Table 2. 3 1 Kretzoi-Pécsi 1982, 318. Fig. 3. 3 2 Topá/, Gy. oral communication. 3 3 Kahlke 1978. 3 4 See foot-note Nr. 32. 3 5 On the basis of the specific composition of the macromammals the Middle Pleistocene fauna of the Solymár Cave — in my opinion — can be put into the Upper Biharian Substage. According to our present knowledge putting the macro mammal fauna of Solymár Cave into the Upper Biharian Substage contradicts to its age determination based on changes in the structure and in the thickness of dental enamel of Arvicola dentition. 3 6 See Table 4.; Stieber 1952. ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS to Prof. D. Jánossy, Prof. M. Kretzoi , Dr. E. Krolopp and Dr. Gy. Topái for their criticism and for making me acquainted with the results of their investigations made on the material of the Solymár Cave, thus giving a contribution to pepare my paper.
