84 ISTVÁN VÖRÖS The withers height of the adult sheep varies between 545 (Ast) and 602 (Tib) mms. Among the sheep extremities deposited in the graves, the bones of the socalled cannon bone (metacarpus-metatarsus) of the lower legs and the knuckles (os phalangis I— II—III) are almost absent! This fact suggests that the sheep were skinned 2 6 and the mc/mt bones and the knuckles which had remained within the skin were used for other purposes together with the skin. The legs of the sheep were cut off exactly at the fore carpus and the hind hock (ankle) articulations. In six cases the calcaneus and also in two cases the astagalus bone remained on the hind upper legs when the hind leg was cut off. The fore extremities were cut off directly over the carpalia with great precision. Only in two cases 25 F, 18 F did 1 — 2 carpale pieces remain in the lower ligaments of the upper front leg. 5.4. Goat The withers height calculated from the length measurements of the goat bones 2 7 is 635— 640 mms (radius) which suggest large animals. Two pits, beside, the eMCA cemetery yielded goat horn-cores which belong to the small, scimitar type. 5.5. Pig Skull remains of pig are absent in the graves. The age intervals calculated from the degree of ossification of the postcranial elements are: 6- 10 months 2 F, 12 M, 16 F, 23 F 2— 2,5 years 16 F The withers height of the subadult pig 2 8 in the grave 16 F was 745 (Hum) — 760 (Ast)~ 750 (Calc): Sum. 750 mms, suggesting large tall pigs. 6. EARLY MCA PITS IN THE CEMETERY AT TETES There were also two pits next to and in the eMCA cemetery at TiszavalkTetes. Both pits are big, deep "pit-complexes". They are next to each other on the eastern side of the excavated part of the cemetery. Pit V/f lay toward the north and pit XH/a towards the south 2 9. 2 6 Vörös, I., 1980: Zoological and palaeoeconomical investigations on the archeozoologocal material of the Early Neolithic Körös Culture.
