ANIMAL REMAINS FROM TISZAVALK-TETES 83 5. ZOOLOGICAL CHARACTERIZATION OF THE ANIMALS 5.1. Domestic cattle Since only a few bone remains of this animal suitable for study were found in the cemetery, it is only possible to state that they belong to big/large size breed. For the measurements see Table 8. 5.2. Aurochs The only bone from this species is a scapula; its measurements fall within "macro" size category. For the measurements see Table 8. 5.3. Sheep The sheep in the cemetery at Tetes were of small slight animals. The absence of the head — except for one collapsed skull — makes it impossible to characterize them on a traditional craniological basis and according to the form of the horncores. The degree of the epiphysal ossification of the long bones makes it possible to calculate extended timeintervals for the age of young sheep: 1 — 1,5 years old 1,5—2 years old 2 — 2,5 years old 3 years old adult years old 2 F 3 F, 18 F, 19 M 4 M, 9F 7 M 1 M, 10 M, 11 M, 17 M, 25 F The withers height of the sheep can be calculated from the length measurements of the intact long bones of the postcranial skeleton elements 2 5: Age/Nr of grave Hum Rad Tib Ast Calc Sum. 1,5-2 3 F 531 533 536 534 18 F 550 550 19 M 550 550 2-2,5 9 F 550 550 4 M г (2x)555 555 J 7 M 583 556 570 Adult 1 M 561 563 562 10 M 570 583 602 582 585 11 M 578 581 570 477 25 F 545 545 2 5 Teichert, M. bei Schafen.
