LION REMAINS 37 Fig. 3. Tiszaluc. Caninus sup. dext. fr. / .• medial view; 2 : lingual view 3. ábra Tiszaluc. Caninus sup. dext. fr. / : Norma medialis; 2 : Norma lingualisV. 60.1581) — belongs to a lion, being the lower left caninus of the animal. The original tooth (Inv.No.: 5/192.1939) was sent together with its card by J. Dombay to the zoologist Gy. Éhik of the Hungarian National Museum for studying. At that time, however, the occurrence of lion in Europe after the Pleistocene was considered as quite impossible so the scientific evaluation of the sensational find was not carried out and unfortunately the find was lost, too. The composition of "sporadic" animal bone material found during the excavation of subgroups of graves VIb —VId being on a shallow, heavily eroded area coincides with the animal bone grave goods of other graves. So it is probable that the lion caninus of Zengővárkony was a grave good in one of the graves of subgroups VIb —VId.
