Tibor Kovács: Askoi, Bird-Shaped Vessels, Bird-Shaped Rattles in Bronze Age Hungary
ASKOI, BIRD-SIIAPED VESSELS 17 As compared to those discussed above, it is noteworthy that the bird-shaped vessels of Dubovac-Cîma culture resemble each other in shape and decoration [Korbovo (Fig. I. no. 10), Korbovo-Pes^ak, 5 6 Cirna , Ostrovul-Mare b l\. To make up the amount, let me mention some late Bronze Age bird-shaped vessels as well. Most probably there emerged from the vicinity of Mohács a lidded bird-shaped pedestalled vessel, decorated with stylized bird-heads; this was published by Erzsébet Patek together with the finds of the urn-grave culture (HA-HB). 5 8 There is in the collection of King Stephen Museum a defective bird-shaped vessel, standing on four legs, this probably came from the Székesfehérvár region. On the basis of similar pieces found west of the Carpathian Basin, it can be dated to the Hallstatt period. 5 9 Two bronze bird-shaped vessels (Cicarovce, apiece from an unknown site) 6 0 published by József Hampel, are well-known pieces, and we often encounter their valuation in literature. 5 6 GaraSanin, M., op. cit. 84. note 459., Pl.
