Tibor Kovács: Eastern Connections of North-Eastern Hungary in the Late Bronze Age
44 T. KOVÁCS cm, d. base 4 cm. Inv. no. 63.895.1. (Fig. 16, no. 6). According to the inventory the vessel was discovered on the land of J. Zámbori and approximately 1.5 kilometres far from the site four vessels and bronze objects were found. These latter are the goods of a grave from Egyek and thus the topographical position of the finds of Berkesz —Demecser and Egyek contribute important data to the determination of relative chronology. Nyíribrony—Beltelek. (28) Stray find. JAM, Nyíregyháza. This cup with handle and everted rim in the collection of the Museum came to light in the farmyard of J. Jármy. Grey, restored. H. 5.8 cm, d. mouth 6.6 cm, d. base 2.6 cm. Inv. no. 57.275.2. (Fig. 16, no. 1). Nyírkárász. (19) A handled cup with slightly fluted, thin everted rim from Nyírkarász is displayed at the exhibition of the Vármúzeum at Kisvárda. Belly decorated with incised curved lines. Nyírkárász—Gyulaháza, tumulus. (18) In 1901 A. Jósa excavated two tumuli located between Nyírkarász and Gyulaháza. His records concerning the excavation and the finds contradict. A. Mozsolics published the finds Nyírkarász—Gyulaháza. 2 8 From Jósa's description — quoted by Mozsolics — it seems that he excavated two adjoining tumuli. In the one potsherds and in the other gold and bronze objects were found on top of burnt bones. However, according to another record, not quoted so far, under one tumulus at a depth of 4.5 m gold (earring and bead) and bronze objects (these latter correspond to the pieces published by Mozsolics) lay on top of burned human bones. Above these lay the scattered sherds of two or three vessels over an approximately 4 sq. m. area. One of the vessels had lime inlaid decoration. 2 9 If we can accept Jósa's unambiguous description, it provides important data in relation to the pottery of the Berkesz —Demecser type and the bronze finds.
