Sándor Soproni: Two Inscribed Relics of the Cohors XIIX voluntariorum c. R

40 S. SOPRONI Fig. 9. There are somewhat more problems involved in the cohors having been stationed in Carnuntum, supposedly proved by the former inscription and the stamped brick. Unfortunately it cannot be learned from the publication in which of the layers the stamped bricks were found. The building in which it was discovered, although rebuilt, stood throughout the period of the camp's existence. 45 The inscribed fragment, according to the publication, was apparently the front of the sarcophagus. 4 6 In this case the relic may be dated to the last third of the century. 4 7 This dating is also supported by the included names. Clemens Licini4 5 Novotny , E., loc. cit. 4 6 Bornian, E., loc. cit. 4 7 Domas^ewski, A., BJ 117 (1908) p. 153. He dates the inscription to the time of Septimus Severus or later. Wagner, W. (op. cit. pp. 199 ff.) dates the inscription between 138 and 154 or to the time following the Moesian stay of the cohors.
