1919 March 20th. He lectures on the untimeliness of the proletarian dictatorship at the university. 1919 He is one of the organizers and lecturers of the Free Society of Old Galileians. 1919 May 26th. Jászi intercedes with the Foreign Minister of the newly born Austrian Republic, Otto Bauer, to allow Lajos Bíró, Mihály Károlyi and Károly Polányi enter Vienna. 1919 June 8th. He arrives in Vienna. 1919 June 16th. He is hospitalized. Leaves hospital in October. 1920 He moves to Hinterbrühl where he meets Ilona Du- czynska who is newly returned from Soviet Russia. 1921 From Hinterbrühl, Polanyi moves to Reichenau. 1921 With Oszkár Jászi taking over the Bécsi Magyar Újság, ('Hungarian Journal of Vienna') (June 15th), Polanyi acts as Jászi's secretary first, then as an independent adrisor, later (from June 3rd, 1922) becoming a member of the editorial board until the journal ceases to exist (December 1923.) 1923 February. He marries Ilona Duczynska. Soon their first and only child Karoline Helene (Kari) is born. 1924 From January he writes for József Mayor's journal, 'Bécsi Kurír' ('Vienna Courier'). The paper ceases to exist in April. 1924 He acts as a consultant on international affairs and foreign policy on the economic and political weekly 'Der Österreichische Volkswirt', founded by Walter Federn. 187
