1999. november 9. oldal GOOD NEWS AND A REQUEST FOR HELP FROM YUGOSLAVIA BETEL The first couple was converted seven years ago and so started the history of our church. Since that time year after year, additional people have committed their lives to the Lord Jesus. At present, our fellowship has 16 members, but the number of those regularly attending our meetings is higher. Every age group is represented, young people as well as older folks are involved. We consider it a special grace from God that he calls young couples out of the world, as a result of which many children belong to the church. We deal with them on a regular basis in Children’s Sunday School. We love to be together. We have several fellowship meetings weekly. We have a Bible Study meeting every Tuesday evening and we hold two services on Sundays. Since we have no church building (yet) we meet in homes. We try to make use of every opportunity and method to reach the people around us with the Gospel. We find personal testimony to be the most effective evangelistic method. We testify about Jesus Christ as our Saviour to our old friends and relatives. Most of our members have been converted through this. We also, from time to time, hold evangelistic meetings in the local hall of culture. From spring to autumn, we sell and distribute Christian books and tracts in the town center-weather permitting. We find this activity useful for making new contacts. We are also attempting to plant a church in a neighboring village. Where we can, we also help others with food, clothing and medicine. Our church has been functioning as an inde-pendent congregation since January 1st, 1996. It is a member of the Union of Baptist Churches in Serbia and of the Fellowship of Hungarian Baptists in Serbia. Cantavir - Csantavér The town has about 10.000 inhabitants, the over-whel-ming majority (95%) being Hungarians. Most of the people in the town profess to be Roman Catholics, but there are also some who claim to be atheists. Our church is the first evangelical fellowship in the town. Cantavir (Csantavér) is located about 25 km from Subotica, some 35 km from Hungary (border crossing point at Tompa) and only 5 km from the Horgos-Belgrade motorway. Its location is also favourable from the point of view of evangelising Hungarians. There are several Hungarian villages within 20-25 km of Cantavir, where there is presently no evangelical witness. PLANS - VISIONS GOAL: GROWTH IN TWO DIRECTIONS “The churches were strengthened in the faith and grew daily in numbers ” — Acts 16:5 1. TO BE STRENGTHENED IN THE FAITH 1. Organizing courses-about fundamental Biblical truths -about preparation for the ministry 2. Organizing meetings for promoting fellowship-retreats-fellowship meetings -excursions, sport meetings -conferences - participation, organization II. TO GROW IN NUMBERS 1. Starting home Bible study groups 2. Encouraging personal witnessing 3. Organization of public evangelistic meetings 4. Child Evangelism - “Smile Club” 5. Literature Mission MISSION HOUSE We consider the time to be ripe for buying a building for our church, which would also act as centre for the Hungarian Baptist Mission in Serbia. The building will serve the following functions: * Meeting place for BETEL Baptist Church * Conference centre (conferences, training courses) * Accommodation for and sending out of different evangelistic groups * Headquarters for Literature Mission. Technical editing and publication of the periodical KAPCSOLAT (“Links”) * Centre for the charity ministry of the Hungarian Baptist Fellowship in Serbia. WHAT YOU CAN DO: Pray for us! Finally, brothers, pray for us, that the message of the Lord may spread rapidly and be honoured...” - 2. Thes 3;1 Help in the Ministry! ... "Comeover..., helpus. ” - Acts 16:9 Give for Betel Mission House! “At the present time your plenty will supply what they need, so that in turn their plenty will supply what you need. Then there will be equality... You know when I sit down at my PC, and when I step away. You understand my modem, and the whole e-mail thing. You know the way I let the Internet waste my time, but too, how it has let me keep in contact with family andfriends around the globe. Even before I’ve touched the keyboard, You know what I’ll write. It is hardforme to comprehend that You ’re standing at my shoulder every time I sign on. You are awesome, Lord, and the Y2K uncertainties can't disturb You, like they do me and lots of people around me. Where can I go that Your Spirit isn 't with me? Or could I get away from Your love and protection, if I was running in fear come January 1, 2000? If my electricity shuts down, You are there. If I have to sleep under 2 down comforters to keep warm when my gas furnace fails to operate, You are there, if the city can 't keep the water pumping, or my ATM is “out of service, ” You ’ll take care of me. If on December 31, 1999, I cry, ",surely the darkness will overwhelm me, and the light around me will be night," even the darkness is not dark to you, and the night is bright as the day. Darkness and light are alike, to You. You made me, Lord, and You love me. Your works have no glitches, no shutdowns, no power failures. My days, with or without computers, were planned by You before I was even born! Help me to be faithful to You, and not panic when I hear of shortages, outages and chaos. Help me to be prepared to help others, physically and spiritually. Let me be an enemy of fear mongers, and help me to show those who are truly afraid of the future how to put their trust in You, Lord, the Almighty One. Keep Your eye on me, O God, and touch my heart. Give me your peace, and make me share it with others. Keep my eyes on You, now and forever. Author unknown
