1964 szeptember 1. EVANGÉLIUMI HÍRNÖK 7-IK OLDAL III. TAKING A CHILD TO SUNDAY SCHOOL RATHER THAN SENDING HIM WILL HELP TO CREATE A SOCIAL . ENVIRONMENT .WHERE GOOD CHARACTER CAN BE BUILT. I can imagine what happens in a home where the child is pulled out of bed, dressed, pushed out the door to go to Sunday school. Soon the child will rebel. There will be argument, fight, and Sunday school will become, not a help in character building, but a hinderance. I know of children who were sent to Sunday school but they did not go there. They met delinquent children on the way and did mischief and sin. Later they did not go home when Sunday school should have been ever, but the parents did not mind. They had more time to themselves without the children. In this case sending children to Sunday school actually helped to destroy their character. Parents who do not take their children to Sunday school are seldom sincere Christians at home. There is very little or nothing to support at home what the children hear in Sunday school. Christian teaching is lost on them for lack of daily practice in the home. Yet it is in the home where our children must grow and develope not only physically but spiritually and mentally. Christian parents create a home environment where good character can develop. The home environment places a child into a better social environment on a broader scale. A Christian family will usually associate with other Christian families. I do not mean to imply that our friends must all be Baptists, but they will be almost naturally, Christians. This will create a social environment where our young people will meet young people with Christian background, Christian training, and a better foundation on which to continue to build Christian character even for the future families. I believe that our strongest 'Christians come from healthy home and social environments. Bad habits are not formed and need not cause trouble later. Christian behaviour becomes easier and more natural because the whole environment, daily experiences, are all Christ centered. It is true that sometimes flowers can grow among thorns but they grow better in a garden well kept and cared for. Good character has been developed in unfavorable environments, but it grows better in good Christian surroundings. Character buildiug in our children is our most important work. If we fail there, we are failures. It is something we must begin as soon as we decide to have a child. We do it by being worthy examples; by creating a desire for goodness, not for reward, but for goodness sake alone; by making our environment such that good character may develope. This is the work of the home first. The Church may help, but the home is the foundation for good charaoter building. “Train up a child in e way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it”. (Proverbs 22:6. This is character building. A good example of this truth is Moses. How long was he with his mother? Not too long. His early training and good charaoter was revealed when he became forty years old. Or Paul’s words to Timothy: “I am reminded of your sincere faith, a faith that dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice and now, I am sure, dwells in you”. II Timothy 1:6 RSV. There we have three generations of character building by word and example. May God' bless us parents, grandparents, Sunday school teachers, pastors, with wisdom to help our children to develope Christ-like character and live for the glory of God and the benefit of mankind. Nővérünk résztvett a közelmúltban megtartott naggyűlésünkön, New Brunswick városában s örvendeztünk ottléte felett. Hisszük, hogy egyszer majd eljő az ideje annak is, hogy kedves férjével is megismerkedhetünk, ki a “Fellowship Bulletin”-nak segédszerkesztó'j e. Imádkozzunk lelki testvéreinkért és a misszióért. Női Konferenciájának 50 éves jubileuma alkalmával Cleveland, O. Julius 10-én. Három egymástól különböző koronáról szeretnék említést tenni. A különbség nem annyira minőségükben, mint inkább jelentőségükben van, hiszen minden korona aranyból készült, csak a Krisztus szégyen s gúny koronáját készítették tövisből. A korona tgy szimbólum és nem emberi találmány, hanem Istennek rendelkezése alapján készült először a választott nép főpapjának, amelyen nem ragyogtak drágakövek, hanem a belevésett írás jelentett nagyon sokat: “Szentség az Urnák” volt olvasható rajta. Ez azt jelentette, hogy akinek ez a fejére tétetett, az el lett különítve és az Ur szolgálatára lett szentelve. Amikor ezelőtt 50 esztendővel megalapították a Női konferenciát, azok vitték végbe az alapítási munkát, akik érezték azt, hogy lélekben megmosattak és Jézus által megigazíttattak. amiért is, az: Az igazság koronája alatt tömörültek és ez alá a korona alá igyekeztek gyűjteni másokat is. Tudták az elinduláskor azt, hogy elhatározásuk jogos és kötelezve is vannak erre azáltal a fogadalom által, melyet tettek akkor, amikor megigazulásuk pecsétje által is elkülöníttettek a világtól. Tudták azt is, hogy Isten sáfárságot bízott rájuk s kezeikbe javakat adott azért, hogy okosan gazdálkodjanak vele. Oh ha össze lehetne most varázsolni az 50 esztendei jó cselekedeteket! Egy hatalmas piramis állana itt előttünk. S vajon hányszor töltené meg ezt a termet azok sokasága, akiknek könnyeiket törölték, testüket felöltöztették, tányérjaikba ételt öntöttek, kezeikbe az élet kenyerét juttatták, vagy iskolák padjai közé segítették őket? És mindég annak a nevében tevékenykedtek, Aki azért született és jött a világra, hogy bizonyságot tegyen az igazságról. A megigazulás tudata és ennek szimbolikus birtoklása nem elégítette meg őket teljesen. így az első döntő lépés után azzal a kérelemmel álltak Isten elé, hogy: áldja meg szervezetüket hosszú élettel.
