1959. január 15. EVANGÉLIUMI HÍRNÖK 5-IK OLDAL SUNDAY SCHOOL CORNER Mrs. M. Major SYMBOLS OF THE NEW YEAR New Year is always symbolized either by an hour-glass or a new baby. The former makes us to think of time as running out. In Psalm 90:12 we read: “So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wis­dom”. In the world of business they take inventories simply to find out what the real picture is: is there pro­fit or loss, and how much? As church school teachers and workers we ought also take a spirit­ual inventory of our efforts. Of cour­se this could be done any time, but because of the psychological atmos­phere of the season, we ought to utilize the general trend in our field of service, yes, in “our Father’s bus­iness”, as Jesus would call it (Luke 2:49). Perhaps question like the following will prove to be helpful: Was my teaching effective? What were my weak points and strong points? Were my every day actions and my perso­nal life in general living illustrations of my teaching? As we know, real Christianity is not taught so much as it is caught. You have heard of one who allegedly said to a so called Christian: Your deeds speak so loudly 1 cannot hear what you say”. The sand of time in our hour-glass is fast running out. It is later than we think. So let us make the best use of our opportunities as we work and teach and lead. Just a word or two about the other symbol of time that of the new baby. Such a wonderful little creature pla­ces a lot of responsibility on the parents and others around. It req­uires a lot of work, worry and care. The mother especially has to be prep­ared to handle the child with utmost care. In order to bring it up properly, a real mother will know no limit to her efforts and sacrifices it takes. Of course an i n t e 11 i gent father and others around will also do their very best. By excluding rude and rough ways, the child's life will not be marred. To us, Sunday school workers this new year will bring new responsibil­ities. The parents will read books and even attend certain classes in order to become better aquainted with better methods to help their offspring So should we earnestly apply oursel­ves to further preparation to utilize this year more effectively in the Lord’s service. By preparing each lessons according to the needs of our pupils, 1959 will turn out to be a blessed span of time in our life and in the life of those we serve. I do not know for sure, but I am afraid the visiting of the pupils by Sundays school workers is perhaps considered VÁROSI PRÉDIKÁTOROK MELLÉK FOGLALKOZÁSA Ha már a mellékfoglalkozásoknál tartunk, megemlítem, hogy Magyar­­országon szinte kivétel nélkül min­den lelkipásztornak volt valami mel­lékfoglalkozása. A vidéki prédikáto­rok, mint említettem, földet müvei­tek, méhészkedtek, kertészkedtek, a városiak pedig valami egyebet csinál­tak. Az országos elnök mellékfog­lalkozása az elnökség, amely bizo­nyos szerény mellékjövedelmet is biz­tosit, mert az elnpk egyben hitköz­ségi elöljáró is, aki tehát az áttéré­seknél és azoknak a hivatalos anya­könyvben való regisztrálásánál tölt be fontos tisztet. Ugyancsak az ő ke­zében fut össze a lapszerkesztési, iiönyvkiadás, különféle szakbizott­ságokban való tagság, óraadás a sze­mináriumban. Az elnök a közösség első hivatalnoka, aki idejének egy je­lentős részét a központi iroda ügy­­rányitásának szenteli. Nagyon állt ez néhaivaló Somogyi Imrére, de érvé­nyes az ő azótától fogva való utódjá­ra, Szabó Lászlóra, aki 1951. nov. óta tplti be ezt a tisztet, nemcsak mint a magyarországi baptista közösség ve­zetője, hanem mint a Kommunista Állami Egyházügyi Hivatal bizalmi embere is. Helyettese mindkét tekin. a lost art in some quarters. It may be that even get-well cards are not always sent. However, nothing can take the place of a warm-hearted visit occasionally to the homes of our children. This new year is a new challenge and opportunity. May the Holy Spirit fill our hearts with zeal and holy ambition to be our best for the Mas­ter. Let heavenly affection and des­ires rule us always. The Baptist Jubilee Advance has been launched at our watchnight services. Pray for its success and be part of it ourselves in our Sunday school work. In this way we surely will enjoy a Happy New Year. Gyülekezetben. A II. Világháború be­fejezése után a Pesttől 30 kilométer­re fekvő Pécel község baptista gyü­lekezete hívta meg lelkipásztorának mint laikus p r é d i kátort. Ebben a tisztségben idős Udvarnoki Andrást és ifj. Udvarnoki Andrást követte. Prédikátorrá való meghívása előtt volt Nagy Józsefnek egy kis könyv­­kereskedése és mint óraadó, nem theologiai tárgyakat tanított a the­­ologiai Szemináriumban. Azonfelül ő volt hosszú éveken keresztül a bap­tista ifjúsági munkának a vezetője. Ezt a munkakört áldott emlékezetű Pannonhalmi Béla volt újpesti, majd vámospércsi prédikátortól vette át. Nagy József, Pannonhalmi Béla leár nyát, Kamillát vette feleségül. Egyéb­ként Pannonhalmi Béla sem része­sült módszeres theologiai kiképzés­ben... Nem úgy említem ezeket a tényeket, mint helytelenítést bárki felé, mivel a magyarországi baptis­ták az egyetemes papság elvét gya­korolják és eszerint bárkit megbíz­nak lelkipásztorsággal, ha arra való elhivatottságáról és rátermettségéről meggyőződést szereznek... Nagy Jó­zsef olyan ügyesen forgolódott, hogy a szemináriumi óraadó tanárságból 1955-ben rendes tanárrá lépett elő.
