The chronicle of Eger Tobacco Factory
The chosen company
Billion pieces In 1978 a significant new investment came to fruition: a new bathing block was completed with a capacity for 850 people. This freed a sizeable amount of space in the factory building, allowing much more room for the installation of machinery. In the same year a smaller building project was begun which caused quite a stir in tobacco industry circles. Funds for the building, which is still standing today next to the sports field, would certainly never have been granted out of the trust’s tight investment budget, if a little misunderstanding hadn’t come to the aid of the Eger factory. The term “conditioning room”, like “conditioning cylinder”, had come to be part and parcel of tobacco industry jargon, and thus it was that those called upon to judge the merits of the various appeals for money did not for a moment suspect that in this case the term was being used to describe a gym, sauna and changing rooms. By the time the clever dodge came to light, the building was already standing, and Mr. Domán the director escaped being disciplined by a hair’s breadth. Frequently the feeling comes over one when reading the 1978 Eger Tobacco Factory News that these events just happened yesterday.
