LUDÁNYI MÁRIA KÖZÉPKORI MOTÍVUMOK G ERG El ALBERT HISTÓRIÁJÁBAN ABSTRACT: (Medieval motifs in the story of Albert Gergei) Several theories about the sources of The Story of Albert Gergei can be read in literature. When searching the basic story of the Hungarian history the most general literature is the Greek and the Italian Renaissance culture, as well as the assumption of Hungarian tradition of popular poetry. Present paper (which is only a part of a larger work) sets out to a new way in this problem. The author draws the attention to the identity of motifs which are to be found both in the Hungarian literary work and in the West-European knightly medieval poetry. In the analysis the reader can discover the typical "two-stroke" design-method which is very characteristic in knightly epics, the role of adventures, wonder in the story of Argirus, the motifs of searching, amorous pilgrimage, every single station of which helps the spiritual improving of the knight so as to deserve his fibal happiness. The aim of the author is to demonstrate: "L'amour courtois" which is so typical for the court culture is present in the work of Albert Gergei. Gergei Albert széphistóriájának nem maradt fenn szövege a XVI. századból, e korban való meglétéről csak közvetett, de bizonyító értékű adatok állnak rendelkezésünkre. Vizsgálatánál számolnunk kell a XVII. századi másolók és XVIII. századi nyomdák szövegtorzításával (félreolvasás, "jobbító" szándék). Tehát van egy esztétikai szempontból is kiemelkedő széphistóriánk, de nincs róla autentikus szövegünk. Ez nehezíti meg a szerző kilétének megállapítását, és a magyar mű közvetlen forrásának meghatározását. Gergei egyértelműen utal arra, hogy munkája alapjául írásos forrás szolgált
