HOLLÓ ERVIN "OLYAN VAGYOK, MINT EGY REGÉNY..." NARRATÍV SZERKEZET ÉS MOTÍVUMOK ESTERHÁZY PÉTER IIRABAL KÖNYVE CÍMŰ MÜVÉBEN ABSTRACT: ("I am like a novel..: Peter Esterházy: "Hrabal's book") The essayist makes an attempt to sketch out the motif and narrative structure of Peter Esterházy's work called "Hrabal's book" and to present the relationship between these two main organizing parts. He doesn't try to touch upon any other aspects of the novel, instead he draws his conclusion from the book as a whole. At first sight the subject of his analysis seems to be simple but it turns out from the essay that Esterházy's novel of postmodern inspiration, special systematical division and narratives structure, almost without any traditional plot can be understood exactly from these two dominant elements for the readers. The perspective of the narrator and his constantly changing manner of speaking, the characters that are merging into one another creates a special syncretic and simultaneous world in the work. In addition, the uniqueness of this world is enhanced by the motif structure of the novel, too. The complex motif texture depicts human life in all its diversity: problems of birth and death, intimacy and historical fate, private emotions and political determinations, individual and absolute (God) being, facts and literature, things and the ways of seeing things can all be found swirling around together in Esterházy's book. The novel raises those human problems which preoccupy us in our time. After all stories — or perhaps music -- remain for us with the help of which we can possess time.
