Summary ARCHIVES: BETWEEN DIGITAL DOCUMENTS AND ACCELERATED DETERIORATION OF MATERIALS WRITTEN ON ACID PAPER In the past written heritage was recorded at various types of materials: stone, clay, metallic and wax tablets, palm-leaves, bark, papyrus ... Modern technologies provided a new types of written heritage on the unconventional media - from the photograph and film through the sonorous documents, to the machine readable materials on magnetic media. But, materials written on paper are the most often in our archives, by the space they captures, but not obliged about amount of informations that contains, the basic aim of preservation a cultural heritage, and thereby a written heritage, is tendency to extend it,s durability as much as posible, so they my be protect for posterity. It obtains by various types of preservation, from which conservation and restoration are the most specific forms. In the conservation and restoration of unconventional materials appears some new elements, that requires for redefinition of some concept related to traditional materials.
