Summary THE BASIC PRINCIPLES OF THE NEW ARCHIVAL LEGISLATION IN THE SOCIALISTIC REPUBLIC OF CROATIA In the year 1962 there was published the Archival Materials Protection and Archives Act for the territory of the Socialistic Republic of Croatia. This act was in the year 1965 corrected and amended on the basis of the new con­stitutional and judicial principles and rules which were published in 1963—65. In the article the author analyses in detail the basic principles of the Socialistic Republic's of Croatia Archival Materials Protection and Archives Act. The author affirms that these principles are as follows: 1) The universal and many-sided protection of archival materials. 2) Obligatory archival service on the whole territory of the Socialistic Republic of Croatia. 3) The rule that the archival materials are to be preserved in the State Archives as independent, cultural and scientific institutions and only excep­tionally outside of them. 4) The complex character of the archival institutions which have admi­nistrative, professional, scientific, cultural and educational functions. 5) Completeness and integrality of legal mechanism for protection of archival materials. The author treats these principles individually and with detailed analysis both from the theoretical and practical aspect. In more important points author gives a comparative analysis according to the new Italian Archives Act of 1963 and according to the new German Democratic Republic's State Archival Service Act of 1965. In the conclusion the author gives his remarks on the Socialistic Repu­blic's of Croatia Archival Materials Protection and Archives Act affirming that it represents a very good example of modern archival legislation which offers great possibilities for the improvement of the archival service in the Socialistic Republic of Croatia. 372
