12 CALVIN SYNOD HERALD Hungarian Reformed Youth Camp 2006 This year our Summer Youth Camp was again a wonderful and successful experience, both for the youth and the adults. Again we had twenty-two new campers come and join us, some ninety participants. For the adults, the most wonderful aspect of camp is that we have the opportunity to see young people “bloom” as Christians, fall in love with the opportunity to be allowed to share their faith, and thirst to return the following year. We watch children become young adults both physically and spiritually. We see their change from year to year, coming with mixed expectations the first year, coming back eagerly the following years. We watch as shy young people blossom and become leaders in worship and discussion. We see friendships formed, we see young people become young adults who want to share the wonderful faith they have acquired or had strengthened at this summer camp experience. Our topic this year dealt with “sin,” a topic all Christians must face throughout their lives. Our presenters this year were Rev. Zoltán S. Sutto (General Secretary of Calvin Synod), Pastor Kirk Albrecht, Jeremy Ritch (one of our former campers now serving in ministry to youth) and Jeff Thaxton (a well-known speaker with youth groups). On Friday a number of our young people and adults shared their own experience with Christ and how He has changed their lives. Kathy Smith, a member of the Fairport Harbor congregation and Commissioned Lay Worker of Calvin Synod, continues to be an important central figure in the success of the Camp, assisted by Sandy Szepesi who is a former camper. Most of the adults who bring success to the camp are former campers who continue because of the wonderful experience they had as youth, and now wish to share this same experience with others. This year we had a number of Calvin Synod ministers in attendance: Rev. Zsolt Ötvös (Columbus), Rev. Csaba Krasznai (Walton Hills), Rt. Rev. Louis Medgyesi (Fairport Harbor) and Rt. Rev. Koloman K. Ludwig, Bishop. We were also joined by Rev. Attila Kocsis, pastor of the Perth Amboy congregation of the Hungarian Reformed Church of America (HRCA). The success of the camp this year is also due to the Cocamp Directors, Ms. Piroska Hunyady of the HRCA and Calvin Synod’s newly-elected Camp Director Rev. Ötvös.
