6 CALVIN SYNOD HERALD Building Project Underway At RPC Manassas The congregation at the Reformed Presbyterian Church in Manassas, Virginia, has conducted a feasibility study for a building project that would add a large room onto the existing church building. The Building Committee has instructed the architect about our desires and intentions since the draft plan that was shared with the congregation, and is awaiting revised proposals. We ask that our brothers and sisters in Christ keep our Building Committee, the feasibility contractor and the architects, and the growth of the Kingdom of God in Manassas in your prayers. God’s guidance in our efforts on His behalf is far more pivotal than any resources we can bring to bear ourselves. Dr. Edwin P. Elliot, Pastor The Reformed Presbyterian Church - Manassas Hungarian Scouts Alumni The Los Angeles Hungarian Scouts Alumni are working on a wonderful project. They are assisting Hungarian families with children in Erdély (Transylvania) by asking for “godparents” to sponsor a child for $100/year. Although they are not directly affiliated with a specific church, the First Hungarian Reformed Church of Los Angeles and several other Los Angeles Hungarian Reformed churches are participating in the Scouts Alumni program. FHRC-LA has sponsored two children, and the Hollywood Hungarian Reformed Church has sponsored three children. Additionally, last year, at an Ecumenical Worship by these churches and the Los Angeles Hungarian Baptist Church, the entire $400 collection went to support this program. To sponsor a child or for more information, please contact Zoltán Elekes of the Hungarian Scouts Alumni at 909-780-1920. 2004 Musical Benefit The congregation of First Hungarian Reformed Church of Los Angeles is in the planning stages for our 2004 Musical Benefit to be held on November 14. The benefit we held last year raised more than $1,600 for the Kezdivásárhelyi Református Iskola in Kezdivásárhely. With the proceeds, this school was able to buy three computers for their students. We are so grateful to God for giving us the opportunity to help others. We are hoping that by letting our sister churches know about our efforts, that perhaps they will join our congregation in praying for a successful 2004 Benefit or consider a contribution to this cause. For more information please call the church: 310-355-1475. Contributions can be mailed to: The First Hungarian Reformed Church of Los Angeles, 12717 York Avenue, Hawthorne, California. Please note “Mission” on the check. We will gratefully acknowledge each donor for their kindness and generosity. Tünde Garai, Chief Elder Los Angelesi Első Magyar Református Egyház Hawthorne, California Steven Thanks His Sponsors Steven Nyeste arrived back from Down Under in the late evening on July 8. He was very happy, very excited, and extremely tired. He needed a good couple of days just to get over the jet lag. Steven traveled to Australia in June as part of a delegation of high school students chosen for the People to People Student Ambassador Program. This is a note from Steven, written on June 19, the day he left for Sydney: Dear Sponsors, I cannot express how greatly excited I am about the trip I will be partaking on shortly. Without you and all your help, I would never have been able to step onto the airplane today and get to experience this wonderful journey. Without all your help and support, this whole trip would have only been a farfetched dream. / wanted to than you once again and to assure you that your kind donations will not be sated, as I will learn many things and see things that I could not have seen anywhere else. Thank you again and God Bless you. Steven Nyeste Steven is the son of Rev. and Judit Nyeste. The Reformed Presbyterian Church of Manassas, Virginia
