Koloman K. Ludwig as the new Bishop of Calvin Synod was held at the Hungarian Reformed Church of Whiting, Indiana. Rt. Rev. Louis Medgyesi performed the installation. Dear Friends In the past few weeks many of us have had the opportunity to relax, enjoy our summer vacations, and spend time with friends and family that we normally do not have the opportunity to do. Perhaps in reflection of Ecclesiastes 3, there being a time an season for everything under the sun, and there must be a time for us to rest and rejuvenate ourselves. But there is a time and season for everything under the sun, and some of those times become challenges to us in life. Several weeks ago the Lord called home to his presence one of the stalwart members of our Synod, The Rt. Rev. Dr. Stephen Szabó, who was a pillar of the Hungarian Reformed Community for many years. During his “time under the sun” he truly made good use of each of the seasons and the talents the Lord had given him, and that is what endeared him to the Hungarian and Reformed Communities. His dedication and example need not only to be remembered and honored, but emulated by us all. Each of us in life is given a small comer of the world to minister to, a part of the world our Savior entrusts to us, to you and me. The responsibilities he gives us have to do with sharing the Gospel of Jesus the Christ with words, with actions, with all that we do. He entrusts to us the lives of those around us, both children and adult acquaintances. And he often gives us living examples of HOW we can bring to life our Christian faith every day. Just as this is a season for “rest”, so there is a purpose for our rest: to strengthen us for the work that lies ahead. Each of us has a part to play in continuing the work of those who are now “resting from their labors”. The season of resting is followed by a season of work, of growth. As we continue into the Fall season, each of our congregations needs new workers, rested workers, persons who will accept the challenge of our Lord to care for those in their own “little comer of the world”. Your Congregation needs Sunday School teachers, active elders, visitors to the sick and shut-ins, missionminded members, persons willing to be leaders and worker in fund-raising projects for your congregation. In the past year your congregation most likely also lost a “Dr. Szabó”, the one who was a leader and tireless dedicated worker. And the Lord put you in that “little comer of the world” to fill the void and bring life to those around you. When we give thanks for those who have served among us is an exemplary manner, the best way to remember them is to respond to the Call the Lord has for us, to and discover the secret of every dedicated Christian: when we give our lives in the service of our Lord and our fellow man, we do indeed receive more blessings than we give to others. Our lives are enriched many-fold when God sees our dedication and commitment to those he sent us to serve. I wish you the Grace, Peace and Love or our Lord Jesus Christ in the coming days. Your servant in Christ, Rt. Rev. Koloman K. Ludwig, Bishop
