CALVIN SYNOD HERALD 3 HRC Woodbridae. CT • On May 23, the Cosistory has scheduled a celebration, wtih festive Hungarian-style dinner, in recognition of the 50th Anniversary of Rev. Albert W. Kovács’ Ordination on that date in 1954. • Congratulations to Rev. Albert and Theresa Kovács on their June 13 wedding anniversary. NEW YORK. NY • Congratulation to Maria Ildikó Fodor, the seminary stu­dent who’s under care of the Synod. She will complete her studies at New York Theological Seminary and graduate May 15th. She is a sincere and committed person and will be looking for a Call. Unfortunately, without a Call, she may lose her visa and have to return to Hungary. EASTERN CLASSIS The Eastern Classis met on Saturday, March 6, 2004, at the First Hungarian Reformed Church of New York, New York. Due to family illness, the Rev. György Cseh, Dean, was unable to be present. The meeting was conducted by the Rev. Leslie Martin, the Secretary-Treasurer. At the conclusion of the meeting, new officers were elected and installed, jointly by Bishops Emeriti Dr. John Butosi and Dr. Francis Vitéz. Dean: Rev. Albert W. Leslie Martin - Norwalk, CT Classis Presbyter: Mr. István Balia - New York, NY Several recommendations, overtures and motions were passed, and will be transmitted upon the preparation of the Minutes by the Secretary pro tern, Mrs. Kathy Donovan, of Mannville, NJ. The following day, the Eastern Classis of the Hungarian Reformed Church in America met at Perth Amboy, with Bishop Andor Demeter present. Calvin Synod and our Eastern Classis were represented by Bishop Francis Vitéz, the Rev’s. Leslie Martin, Bela Poznan, József Vásárhelyi and Albert Kovács. Also, the Rev. Csilla Lucskay was present prior to the meeting, but had to leave posthaste for the plane to Slovakia, as her grandmother had died. We were delighted with their passage of a recommendation to proceed with development of the proposed cooperative Alliance for our Hungarian Reformed churches. Rev. Albert W. Kovács, Eastern Classis Dean Hungarian Reformed Church Woodbridge, New Jersey “STANDING STRONG INA CHAOTIC WORLD” ANNUAL YOUTH CONFERENCE HRC COLUMBUS, OHIO - MAY 1-2, 2004 The Annual Youth Conference will be held in Columbus, Ohio, at the Hungarian Reformed Church, on May 1-2, 2004. Our conference speaker will be Rev. Karl Ludwig. After his presentation, we will break into discussion groups. There will be a dance at church Saturday night, 7:30- 11:00, for the Youth Conference participants. On Sunday, they can enjoy breakfast at church, and they will have an opportunity to participate in the 11:00 a.m. English worship service. Lunch will be followed by short business meeting and farewells. For our out-of-town guests who will be staying at the Comfort Inn in Grove City. To get to the church, from the hotel, take 71N to Greenlawn, turn right, go to High Street and turn right (White Castle’s on corner), go to Innis and turn left taking that to Washington where you will turn left and the church is on the next corner. Nyerges Becomes Full-time Pastor of First Covenant Church of Willougby Hills On February 15, 2004, Rev. William E. Nyerges was officially installed as the new full-time pastor of the First Covenant Church of Willoughby Hills, Ohio. He has been serving the church as its interim pastor since October 2002 and assumed full-time service following his retirement from NASA Glenn Research Center on February 1. The First Covenant Church of Willoughby Hills was originally organized in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1897, by Swedish immigrants and is affiliated with the Evangelical Covenant Church headquartered in Chicago, Illinois. The Reverend Richard B. Lucco, Superintendent of the Great Lakes Conference of Churches, officiated the installation. Ken Lorenz, Mayor of Willoughby Hills, extended the greetings of the community. The installation service was followed by a delicious dinner of stuffed cabbage, chicken, ham and Swedish meatballs, potatoes, rice, vegetables and salads, and a table-full of wonderful pastries - all lovingly prepared by the congregation of the First Covenant Church. Several Hungarian Reformed ministers and church members attended Rev. Nyerges’ installation and extended their personal greetings and the best wishes of their congregations. The Rt. Rev. Louis Medgyesi and 10-12 parishioners from the Hungarian Reformed Church of Fairport Harbor attended and extended their (Continued on page 4)
