If a minister’s sermon is short - he prepared not. If a minister is out on visitations - he is never home. If a minister never goes out - he lacks conception of world. If a minister asks for money for church - he is materialistic. If a minister never mentions money - he is up among stars. If a minister arranges celebrations - he is ever itching. If a minister never arranges anything - church’s life is motionless. If a minister is busy in other things - he steals his time. If a minister is in a hurry - he pays no attention to his folk. If a minister renovates buildings - he throws away people’s money. If a minister never renovates - he lets things go to pieces. If a minister is young - he has no experience. If a minister is old - time for him to retire. If a minister retires - he is fed up with all. If a minister dies - there is no one to replace him. Clergy salaries up in 1999 The average salary for UCC ministers in 1999 was $37,766, reports the Pension Boards in its annual survey. That is 3.1 percent increase over the previous year. It includes a cash salary plus housing allowance. While men still earn more than women, $39, 674, the gap between the sexes is shrinking. The women’s average of $32,923 was a 5 percent increase over the 1998. Last year, men’s wages grew only 3 percent. The UCC’s Florida Conference continues to maintain its position as the place to be for the highest remuneration, this year $45,187, which moved up from fourth place last year. The Rhode Island Conference, at $45,185, slipped a notch to third. Fourth is Southern California Nevada, averaging $42,224; fifth is Southwest at $41,906.
