CALVIN SYNOD HERALD- 4 -AMERIKAI MAGYAR REFORMÁTUSOK LAPJA Youth Conference at the Laurelville, PA Camp The 1997 season of the Youth Con­ference of the Hungarian Reformed Church in America and the Calvin Synod Conference, United Church of Christ, will run from August 3 through 9, 1997. This is the only joint action between the two magyar reformed church groups. The registration policy is as follows: Completed registration forms, accom­panied by the camp fee of $200.00, should be returned no later than July 1, 1997. All checks for the camp fee should be made payable to HUNGAR­IAN REFORMED YOUTH CAMP All reg­istration forms, workshop choices and fees are to be done by the pastor of the local church. The leader from our Synod is Rev. István Nyeste, of the Columbus, Ohio church. The location of the camp is the Laurelville Mennonite Church Center, Mount Pleasant, PA 15666. Joseph Posta Recognized for Contributions to Better Understanding Among Historic Reformed Churches During the 1997 annual meeting of the Reformed Presbyterian Church (Hanover) and the Conference of Con­fessional Presbyterian Churches, Cov­enanter College of Fort Worth, Texas, conferred the honorary degree of Doc­tor of Letters on Joseph Posta, Histo­rian of the Christian Observer. He is the director of the Archives at the Bethlen Home in Ligonier, PA. Dr. Posta serves the Hungarian Re­formed Congregations at Johnstown and Springdale in Western Pennsylva­nia and writes on the life of the Re­formed Church in Europe. Observer managing editor, Dr. Edwin P Elliot, Jr., represented the College and was joined by President Mark Evans of Providence Seminary and President George Dózsa of the Hungarian Re­formed Federatoin in the service mark­ing the conferral. Covenanter College is related the Covenanter Christian Education Asso­ciation. □DU The Traditional Around Labor-Day Days of Togetherness This year, Labor Day will come on Mon­day, September 1st. The Presbyters’ Asso­ciation will meet on Sunday, August 31st. On Monday (Labor Day), they will have a combined Worship Service in the morning at 11:00 a.m. together with the Ministerial Association, concluding the service with Holy Communion in the Bethlen Chapel on the Hill. On the agenda there is a special report from the 21st Century Committee. The main speaker this year will be Rev. Maria Papp from Welland, Ontario - Canada. She will speak on her recently published book “The Story of Your People” with particular focus on the history of the Canadian Hungarians. The Ministerial As­sociation meeting will continue into the next day. Then following as usual, will be the meeting of the Board of Directors of the AMRE and the Board of Managers of the Bethlen Home, and others. These early Fall meetings brought us together; members of the Eighth Tribe of Magyars who split into eight fractions. It is a united meeting of all Hungarian Church workers and ministers of the different fractions of our life. Debrecen Honors Our Editor The Honorary Degree of Theology will be presented to the Rt. Rev. Dr. Stephen Szabó by Debrecen Univer­sity, his alma mater, where he re­ceived his Doctor of Philosophy De­gree (in his youthful years). His American degrees are from the Central Seminary in Dayton, OH (B.D.), Theological Seminary of Pitts­burgh and the University of Pitts­burgh. (Master of Theology and Mas­ter of Art in English Language and Lit­erature.) Time and place to be pub­lished in our upcoming issue. Vilma Vitéz, our bishop’s wife, un­derwent a successful heart surgery on April 18th at the New Brunswick Hos­pital in New Jersey. Our prayers for her complete recov­ery are being offered by the Synod’s constituting congregations from the Atlantic to the Pacific Ocean. New Elections On the first Sunday in June, our New York 69th Street congregation elected Rev. George Cseh as its new pastor. On the second Sunday in June, the Cleveland, OH First Church elected Rev. István Géczy as its new pastor. Both ministers are coming to us from the Mother-Church in Hungary. We are all looking forward to a blessed and fruitful future in both of these historical congregations of the Magyar Calvin Synod. More details are presented in the Hungarian Section of this issue. THE CONFERENCE FOR PRESBY­TERS AND CHURCH WORKERS for our Hungarian Reformed churches in the Ohio District area will be held at the Fairport Harbor, Ohio church on Sun­day, September 28th, 1997.
