During his retirement years he was immensely active in his theological “shop” silently working on his New Testamenttranslation. This active, purposeful period added years to his life which had become so fragile and weak physically. But only physically! It was that powerful spirit and faith that subjugated the body to the primacy of the soul and awarded him to live far beyond the average sojourn of man. God indeed had used him in a mighty way. His influence will linger on, and on in the lives of subsequent generations of preachers and churchmen. Author unknown Brief History of the Elyria Church The Elyria Magyar Reformed Church, presently The Magyar United Church of Christ, was organized on February 20, 1916, with 174 charter members. The Rev. Dr. Elek Csutoros from the Cleveland West Side Hungarian Reformed Church was the organizing pastor. The first church services were held twice a month in the Settlement wanted a church of their very own. In August 1917 the ground was broken for the new church and in September 1917 the cornerstone was laid. In 1918 the church was completed. In 1918 The Rev. Alexander Kalassay, Jr. became the first regular pastor. The parsonage was built in 1919. Rev. Kalassay served for 13 years. Rev.
