CHRISTMAS GREETINGS TO THE CONGREGATIONS OF THE CALVIN SYNOD CONFERENCE OF THE UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST Dear Fellow Christians: “May grace and peace be yours in full measure through your knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord!” (I Peter 1:2) In another Christmas season we would like to remind you of how great is the secret of our religion: “He appeared in human form, was shown to be right by the Spirit, and was seen by angels. He was preached among the nations, was believed in the world, and was taken up to heaven” (I. Tim. 3:16). Christmas means more than parties and shopping and ornamented trees and lighted windows. Christmas means to extol the Love all loves excelling and to join in the song of the heavenly host: “Glory to God in the highest!” while we join the worshiping congregation! We urge you, therefore, to attend worship services and with a believing heart live by the preached Word and the administered Lord’s Supper. There is no Christmas without such a worshipful attitude! At the same time let us remind you that God has revealed His grace for the salvation of all men. “That grace instructs us to give up ungodly living and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in this world, as we wait for the blessed Day we hope for, when the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ will appear” (Titus 2:12-13). Of course, this is not an empty, speculative waiting; therefore the apostle adds: “He gave Himself for us to rescue us from all wickedness and make us a pure people who belong to Him alone and are eager to do good.” “So then, as often as we have the chance we should do good to everyone, but especially to those who belong to our family in the faith” (Gal. 6:10) Our Hungarian Reformed people in Erdély (Rumania), Uruguay, and Argentina are especially in need of our compassionate support. Let, therefore, no congregation in our Synod celebrate Christmas without making generous contributions to these mission projects. May God keep us ever watchful in the dark night of this world, setting our affection on things above and living as those who wait for their Lord so that when He shall appear we may be made like Him and see Him as He is! On behalf of the Conference Council of our Calvin Synod, I wish you a blessed Christmas' John Rutosi, Bishop [SJSJaJ3iajaJBJSJSJSMS®BI3J3J3JSJSJSJ3JSJSJ3I3J5J3®SJBJ5JSJSJSISjajSEJSJa
