Each Christmas is filled with wonder,

As it was so long ago;

When in the East a Special Star,

Led Wise Men to journey far.

Each Christmas, friendships are renewed,

With greeting cards and letters;

For Christmas joy comes from above, Expressing the Lord’s great love.

Each Christmas, carols fill the air,

On streets, in stores and churches;

Like, “Hark The Herald Angels Sing,

Glory To The New Born King.”

Each Christmas, He is bom again,

To live in the hearts and minds;

The world awaiting to be told,

The Christmas Story, never old.

Each Christmas, gifts are passed around,

To celebrate Christ’s birthday;

Our Faith, Hope, Love and blessed things, Indicate He’s King of Kings.

BIRTH OF CHRIST

NARRATOR: “And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed. And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city. And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David,which is called Bethlehem; because he was of the house and lineage of David, to be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child.” (Luke 2:1,5)

CHORUS: O little town of Bethlehem, How still we see thee lie!

Above thy deep and dreamless sleep The silent stars go by;

Yet in thy dark street shineth The everlasting Light;

The hopes and fears of all the years Are met in thee tonight.

SCENE I. Inn in Bethlehem (Enter Joseph and Mary)

JOSEPH: Here we are in Bethlehem, the city of my fore-father, David. We have traveled these many miles from Nazareth. The trip was long and tiring, but now we can seek shelter and rest for the night.

MARY: I’m very tired and weary from the long journey, but I am glad that we have arrived safely. After we get rested, we can see this ancient city of which we have heard so much. Here is an inn. Will you inquire if we may have lodging for the night?

JOSEPH: (Knocks on the door of the inn.)

INN-KEEPER: (Steps out) Who comes there?

JOSEPH: We are Joseph and Mary of the house of David. We have just arrived from the city of Nazareth of Galilee, and being very tired from the long journey, we would like to have lodging for the night.

INN-KEEPER: My good friends! The inn is completely filled. So many travelers have come to Bethlehem during the past few days that we had to use every space in the building to accommodate them. I am very sorry, but there is no room for you in my inn. You may try elsewhere. Perhaps you will find lodging in some home in the city.

MARY: But we are strangers here. We have neither friends or relatives that we know. It is already dark and cold to be roaming in the city.

INN-KEEPER: I truly wish I could help you, but my guests have already retired. I can’t ask anyone to vacate his room for you. God be with you.
