8 CALVIN SYNOD HERALD THEME CHOSEN FOR WARC CENTENARY ASSEMBLY Geneva — “The glory of God and the future of man” is to be the theme of the next assembly of the World Alliance of Reformed Churches, scheduled for St. Andrew’s, Scotland in 1977. The theme was agreed upon by WARC executives meeting at the Stony Point Mission Orientation Centre, New York, January 10—15. Although the original “Alliance of the Reformed Churches throughout the World holding the Presbyterian System” was officially formed in 1875, its first world assembly was not held until 1877, when the venue was Edinburgh, Scotland. The present WARC came into being when the original Alliance and the International Congregational Council (founded 1891) merged at a Uniting Assembly in Nairobi 1970. During the next eighteen months preparation will be made for the detailed organization of the assembly with special attention focussed on its style and numbers of participants. rps JOINT MEETING OF WARC EXECUTIVES WITH NORTH AMERICAN CHURCH REPRESENTATIVES Stony Point, N. Y. — For the first time in the history of the World Alliance of Reformed Churches, the meeting of its Executive Committee was closely related to that of the North American Area Council of the Alliance. WARC executives, who met here January 10-15, also attended the meeting of the Alliance’s North American member churches, January 8-10. WARC Geneva staffmembers were present as resource persons at committee discussions of the NAAC, while representatives from North American churches took part in the WARC Executive Committee meeting. The pattern of the 1974 meeting of the Executive Committee was similar to that of its 1972 meeting in Indonesia, when close relations were established with member churches in that country. Both occassions were attempts at implementing a decision taken after the Nairobi Assembly of the Alliance in 1970 “that the agenda and time-table of future Execuive Committee meetings be arranged in such a way as to make possible consultations with representatives and experts from member churches in the region” in which the metings take place. Following the meeting, several executives and staffmembers paid official visits to WARC member churches and theological seminaries in North America. The WARC Executive Committee has twenty-one members, representing 17 different countries. RPS-------------^ -----------------WHAT TO READ WHEN... This section was named Memory Lawn. However, it has become apparent in recent years that Memory Lawn must be expanded. Meetings were held by Emanuel London, President and Mrs. Helen L. Thomas, General Manager of Clover Leaf with pastors of the following Hungarian Reformed Churches: Reverend Leslie J. Egry, Hungarian Reformed Church of Christ, Woodbridge, N. J. Reverend Francis Vitéz, John Calvin Magyar Reformed Church, Perth Amboy, N. J. Reverend Dr. Andrew Harsanyi, Hungarian Reformed Church, Carteret, N. J. Reverend Leslie Hunyady, Hungarian Reformed Church, Linden, N. J. These conferences resulted in the establishment of additional areas for each Hungarian Church as a safeguard for the future needs of their parishioners. Memory Lawn Section is desirably located on an elevation, overlooking the entire cemetery. It is beautifully landscaped and Clover Leaf will continue its beautification program on a broader scale this year.
