Nt. Szigeti Miklós FIRST HUNGARIAN PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH Vancouver, BC Canada With the passing of 2001, we left behind a year of progressive growth. The words of Paul is true of our Presbyterian brethren in the Diaspora: “I’m sure that He who began a good work in you will bring it to completion in the day of Jesus Christ” (Philippians 1:6), for we continuously experience its fruits. I am happy to report an increase in the membership of our church and an increase in church attendance. We rejoice in that the hearing of the Word of God in Hungarian brings and keeps us together. Regularly held Bible study sessions further strengthen the life of the congregation. Our Hungarian language school had a successful year. Classes are held each Sunday before the 11 AM sermon. It was gratifying to hear at the June closing, and at the September school-year opening ceremonies that the children, most of them bom in Canada, were able to read and write simple texts and recite poems in Hungarian. Although it carried its own sacrifices - getting up early in the morning, for some of them traveling from considerable distances, for the teachers to prepare the lessons; but it was well worth, pupils and teachers found it rewarding. We thank the children, the parents and the teachers for their efforts, but above all, we thank God. Beside Hungarian language classes, we also conduct regular Sunday school; classes are held parallel to the Sunday sermon. In general, 10-15 children attend these classes. We especially rejoice when at special events the children demonstrate their knowledge of the Bible. Our Spring and Fall Bazaars were a great success, thanks to the organization and tireless work of the members of the Kata Bethlen 221
