Kanadai Magyar Református Gyülekezetek

Ladies’ Auxiliary and other enthusiastic members of the congregation. The guest speaker at our November Annual Dinner was the Rev. Zoltán Vass from Toronto, president of the Hungarian Presbyterian Ministers’ Council of Canada. After the delicious dinner, prepared by our Ladies’ Auxiliary and other members, Rev. Vass delivered his address. He spoke about ways in which to preserve our Hungarian identity and spiritual growth both in the Diaspora and in the mother country. We were indeed fortunate to have him here and take strength from his message. We witnessed a touching ceremony at our church on Sunday, December 9, 2001, when one of our members, Mr. Zoltán Keresztes, who fought bravely in the Second World War, was invested with the Hungarian Order of Valour. I am happy to report that by God’s special grace and the generosity of the congregation, we were able to lay a new carpet in the communal hall and put a fresh coat of paint on the building. I also serve two out-of-town Presbyterian congregations in British Columbia. In 2001, I served on four occasions in Kelowa in the Okanagan Valley. As of January 1, 2002, I will serve in Nanaimo congregation on Vancouver Island. Up until now, the Rev. Lajos Vietorisz served in Nanaimo. However, he has just recently retired and, due to health reasons, is unable to travel the considerable distance from Victoria; but he will continue to serve his Victoria congregation. As we regenerated physically, we hope to continue regenerating spiritually through God; and through His blessing and grace gather strength to work for the benefit of all Hungarian Presbyterians in the Diaspora and in our beloved Homeland. Rev. Miklós Szigeti 222
