DAVISON, MICHIGAN Heritage Church, United Church of Christ Davison, Michigan Pastor: Rev. Zoltán S. Sutto Chief Elder: Franklin Nagy The Heritage Church, United Church of Christ (formerly the Flint Hungarian Reformed Church, U.C.C.) of Davison, Michigan, has been very busy in its role as one of the members of the earthly body of our Lord, Jesus Christ. Like most of our sister churches in the Calvin Synod, we have a Hungarian heritage (hence, our name) and we do the things that other Hungarian churches do - we have kolbász sales, bake sales, stuffed cabbage dinners and the rest - to remember our past that began in Flint, Michigan in 1917, with the founding of our church. For over eighty years we have survived because of the help and blessing of our Loving and Caring God. We have grown from a church that had only Hungarians as members with only that beautiful language being spoken, to a church that today, is totally American speaking, where all of its new members, who have chosen it to be their worshipping place, have nothing in common with the Hungarian heritage and culture that the older members have except for their love of God, that comes through in all languages and customs. This blending has not always been easy or without stress and some heartache, but it has been accomplished with the help of the people who worship here, the leaders of the church and in a small way, the minister, but mostly because of God and the lessons that we have learned from His Holy Word - You are all sons of God through faith in Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male or female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. (Galatians 3:26-28) There are three areas that we, at Heritage Church, take very seriously in our desire to fulfill our responsibilities as a member of the Body of Christ. First, we are a church that preaches from the Word of God - if you should attend our services, you will hear the Word of God read from the Lectern, preached from the Pulpit and taught in our Sunday School, both adult and children’s. We encourage individual Bible study and reading from all of our members. We strongly feel that without the Bible acting as our Beacon, we would be like a ship that is lost in the fog and in danger of crashing on the shoals and rocks. We know that folks attend church because of what God has sad, not what or how entertaining 83
