the minister is. We follow Christ’s example that was taught to us in the Gospels, concerning when He returned to His hometown. Of how on the Sabbath He went into the Synagogue and there He read from scripture. He went because He wanted to be with those who were worshipping God. By this He showed us that this is what we, as Christians, must do also, go to church and share God’s Word with others. Second, we have a strong commitment to the field of Missions. A few years ago we looked at the record of our giving and sharing, and it showed that we had come up lacking in sharing our good fortunes with those less fortunate than ourselves. A committee was formed and, as a result of this committee and its hard and relentless work, Heritage Church has turned the comer in the area of giving. In addition to the regular denominational Mission programs, we have established a monthly program that assists a different local mission each month. In the past two years, we have become a leader in the Davison area with our work on the local Thanksgiving and Christmas Baskets project. We have also learned that the hungry are also hungry at other times during the year, and we make regular donations of money and food items to them. Last, but certainly not least, we at Heritage Church have dedicated ourselves to take a more active role in the greater community. Last April, our Sunday School’s Puppet Ministry was asked to participate in the Day of the Child Celebration, held annually at one of the local shopping malls. They went and, during the course of the day, gave hourly Biblically based puppet presentations that were watched by over 5,000 children and their parents. We hosted the Flint Council of Churches annually Thanksgiving Eve service and are now working with them on the upcoming Easter Sunrise Service. We are one of the churches in our area that co-sponsor a Teen Night which is held at a church every Friday evening from September to June. This gives the teenagers of our community a safe place to go where they can play games, talk and Rev. Sutto “introducing” the newest member of the Body of Christ to members of his congregation. 84
