Bethlen Almanac 2000 (Ligonier)

Rev. Imre A. Bertalan: The Bethlen Almanac - The Bethlen Home

From the Activities Department of The Bethlen Home During one of our discussion groups with the residents on the "Good Ole Days" our subject happened to be proms. Resident Mary Grace Smith suggested wouldn't it be fun if we could have a prom or ball. The suggestion was all the Activities Department needed to hear. Many of the residents during our discussion had mentioned they never went to a prom or had a fancy prom dress. Families, staff, etc. were generous in donating prom gowns, mother-of-the-bride dresses, etc. that would be used for the big evening. The next step was to find escorts for our lady residents. I contacted our local college to see if there would be any group of young men who would be willing to volunteer their time for our special evening. St. Vincent College agreed to find some escorts for us. Finally the day had arrived for the Snowflake Ball. Needless to say our lady residents were excited as they prepared for the big event. During the afternoon the ladies enjoyed receiving hair, makeup tips and manicures. The gowns would set everything off. The students arrived and presented their "date" with a corsage. As they were escorted to our dining-room which was decorated in snowflakes, trees and white lights the couples had their photo taken. Several of our lady residents surrounded by St. Vincent College students who acted as escorts for the evening at our Snowflake Ball. 9
