Tóparti Egyházmegye - Lakeside Classis

Lajos at the “Nagytemplom”, the “Calvinist Rome”. While we were gone, the church had a very successful Layman's Sunday, and for the rest of the month Rev. Ed Puff, as always, was here. It is good to know that we can always count on him when we need him. We were saddened this Fall when his lovely wife Ruth passed away. The highlight of the summer was the visit of The Hon. Géza Jeszenszky, Ambassador of Hungary to the United States, with us. The Grape Festival and the Christmas Bazaar were all very well attended. The Membership Committee had a successful series of five cooking classes organized by my wife to attract potential members. Ilona feels that there are good cooks in our congregation and wants them to teach the younger generations their tricks and secrets. It was a lot of fun for all the teachers and students as well. They plan to have a series on Baking in the spring. The Future of the Church Committee is working hard on plans for the new Millennium. We continue to have our Hungarian classes every week, led by our chief elder. We have a dance group. Once a month we cook 150 meals for the Salvation Army, to feed the homeless. Our Ladies Aid had another very profitable cabbage roll sale, a fund matched by our church, to support the Bishop’s Emergency Fund. As in the past, our Dayton, Ohio - Hungarian E&R Church new wing completed, with elevator, Community room, Sunday School rooms and offices. 105
