HOMESTEAD, PENNSYLVANIA The First Hungarian Reformed Church of Homestead Munhall, Pennsylvania Supply Pastor: Rev. Alexander Jalso Chief Elder: Earl V. Jones, Jr. The Congregation of The First Hungarian Reformed Church of Homestead, which has been in existence since 1903 is doing quite well even though we are small in number and do not have a full-time minister. We have been served by students from The Pittsburgh Theological Seminary along with some Retired Ministers and Lay Preachers until August of this year, when the Reverend Alexander Jalso came to be our Temporary Part-Time Minister. Reverend Jalso retired from The Calvin United Presbyterian Church of Brownsville, Pennsylvania. The Calvin Synod appointed Reverend Jalso to be our Administrator and we are most fortunate to have him serve our congregation. Though our Congregation has dwindled over the years, as have others, our average attendance on Sundays is between 42-50 members. This greatly increases on the holidays. We do not have any organizations in our church; however, we are quite active with our baking projects, kolbász and hurka making, annual church picnic along with various luncheons and our annual Christmas party. Each Sunday after our church service, we have a “coffee hour” which is enjoyed by all. Our Chief Elder, Earl V. Jones, Jr. has been a real inspiration to all. He is continuously having various festivities which keeps our congregation together. Earl is always assisted by our Assistant Chief Elder, William F. Horosz. Both of these gentlemen give endlessly of their time and talents. In 1999, we had two weddings, two baptisms, one confirmation and one funeral. We were represented at the Calvin Synod Meeting and the Presbyters Meeting in Ligonier by Dorothy Capp, our Secretary along with Dorothy Smith, one of our Elders. The Officers of our Church are: Earl V. Jones, Jr. - Chief Elder, William F. Horosz, Assistant Chief Elder, Dorothy C. Capp - Secretary, Lisa Susan Toth - Treasurer, Ruth D. Toth and Vera S. Recktosh - Assistant Treasurers. Their terms will expire in 2000. We can truthfully say we are ready for the millennium and we have great faith that our Church will survive for many more years. 85
