Dr. Vitéz Ferenc, püspök: A Kálvin Egyházkerület

We are providing only a few complementary data about the years 1993 and 1994. In 1993 we had a number of important visitors from Hungary and its neighboring countries, giving us performances or lectures: such as politicians, professors, writers and poets, actors and actresses, or in one occasion a famous local sculpture, Csaba Kúr held a two-day exhibit in our halls. The English language programs included a special banquet for Dr. Géza Jeszenszky, Foreign Minister of Hungary, who was accompained by Pál Tar, the Ambassador of Hungary to the USA. We are also grateful to Damaris Peters Pike, professor of Hiram College, Ohio, for her dramatic presentation of “Katie: My Life with Martin Luther” depicting the life of Martin Luther’s wife. Together with Bethany Hungarian Baptist Church we had a benefit banquet for the heart operation of Annamária Kallós, a visitor from Transylvania. It gave us great delight to see the rollicking little girl after the successful operation. At the end of the year, we discontinued the broadcast of the Hungarian worships, many did not get a clear reception. As a gift from the Bingo we installed an elevator in our building, thus making our plant totally accessible by the handicapped. We remodeled our front sign, a gift by Ernest & Goldie Maxim, and Bert & Doris Toth, in memory of their loved ones. The new sign is not only bigger and more artistic in appearance but also contains a beautiful Hungarian emblem made and donated by artist László Szakállas. Our pastor was asked again to preach at the ITT-OTT Conference of the Hungarian Communion of Friends, at Lake Hope, in Southern Ohio. His Hungarian sermon, entitled “Theology in Gears” was published in the Kolozsvár (Transylvania) Korunk, and in the USA Itt-Ott magazines. In 1994, we again had visitors from Hungary, and hungarians from Slovakia, Romania, Sweden and Ukraine, such as actress, artist, musician and a TV producer sharing their talents and ideas with us. Our pastor gave the keynote address at the Cleveland Commemoration of the 1848 Hungarian Revolution. He was asked to give the closing prayer at the National Democratic Convention, Spring Conference. During his brief trip to Hungary in the summer, he preached at both Reformed churhes in his native Tata. In December, he was invited to 209
