jegyzője; ez a gazdasági bizottság lett volna hivatva — az Amerikai Magyar Református Egyesület konvenciójának felhatalmazásával — arra, hogy Ohio államban a második szeretetintézményt, az Ohio-i Bethlen Otthont megépütse. 1989 szeptemberében Solymosi Aladár, Kovács Pál és e gyülekezet lelkésze lemondtak a gazdasági bizottságban viselt tisztségükről az Amerikai Magyar Református Egyesület vezetői és igazgatói részéről folytonosan kinyilvánított negatív megnyilatkozások miatt, amely negatív magatartással egy újabb szeretetintézmény megvalósítása lehetetlenné vált. Az Egyesület elnökének írásban leközölt állítása a való tényeknek ellentmond. Az Ohio-i Bethlen Otthonnal kapcsolatos tevékenység NEM azért szűnt meg, mert e három személy lemondott; az Ohio-i Bethlen Otthonnal kapcsolatos tevékenység az Egyesület vezetőinek és igazgatóinak a támogatása hiányában szenvedett „hajótörést”. Szükségesnek tűnik az, hogy a két szeptemberi lemondó levelet itt (az eredeti angol szöveggel) leközöljük:

From the inception of the Ohio project to provide care for Hungarian-American elderly in the Cleveland area the merits of the project were clearly evident to us: (1) to provide humaniterian service in addressing the ever increasing demand for care for the elderly in our society; (2) to demonstrate the health of the HRFA as a fraternal organization; (3) to increase the saleability of the HRFA's insurance products by offering an addtional incentive, (4) to affirm the Hungarian heritage we share. Despite the complexities of the task, we, along with fellow Board members, were willing to invest energy and countless volunteer hours between meetings to bring vision to reality. Unfortunately the project, although voted for by the Convention, has been torpedoed by the following factors:

(1) lack of positive moral support from some HRFA officers and direct opposition and obstruction from others, who proclaimed the project dead before it had a chance;

(2) pre-emption of the decision making process by legal advisors;

(3) refusal to openly address issues of conflicting opinions in a timely fashion at HRFA Board meetings;

(4) baseless negativ accusations and mistrust directed toward all three Ohio project special committee members.

We regretfully have concluded that there is no point pursuing a project the officers and the Board of the HRFA fail to support
