1 250 BETHLEN NAPTÁR ETHEL ROSE MOLNÁR 1914-1983 Memorial services for Ethel Rose Molnár were held at 11:00 on August 19, 1983. Bishop Dezső Abraham (Hungarian Reformed Church), Rev. Bela Bacsó (a cousin of Miss Ethel), Rev. Imre Bertalan (President, Hungarian Reformed Federation), Rev. Stephen Nagy (1st Hungarian Reformed Church, Cleveland), Fr. Philip Rapp (a godson of Miss Ethel’s) and Rev. Imre A. Bertalan, pastor of Calvin United Church, Toledo, shared in the worship service. The following are excerpts of the meditation that day. Text: I. Corinthians 13. ‘.. .and the greatest of these is a teacher’s love.” There is a very appropriate “coming together” of events here in Birmingham during these days. Two days from now is the 9th Annual Birmingham Ethnic Festival. ... In the annual Festival Book there is a group of people who each year receive special recognition. These people are the recent inductees into the Birmingham Hall of Fame... which recognizes people for their commitment and contributions to our neighborhood. ... In this year’s book there is a picture of a distinguished citizen:... “For over 50 years an active member in Birmingham’s Calvin United Church of Christ. She is the first woman member of the Consistory at the Church and later elected director of the Hungarian Reformed Federation of America. Active in Girl Scouting for over 35 years. She served as youth advisor for all Calvin United Church of Christ groups. She won outstanding Chemistry Teacher Award in 1974 from the Toledo Chemical Society.” The picture, is of Ethel Rose Molnár.... As we worship together, as we speak of her, remember her, we in spirit congratulate her, and in our hearts we give thanks to God for having given her to us.... Ethel’s parents were born in Hungary. Father István came from the town of Forro in Abauj Megye; Mother Berecz Etelka from Kisvarda in Szabolcs Megye. Our church records show that young Ethel was brought here, to the Magyar Református Templom on Sept. 13, 1914 to be baptized by the then pastor, Boros Jeno. Ethel confirmed here as one of 26 members of the class of 1928.... The obituary that appeared in the paper shared many of
