When I became the pastor of this congregation I began to attend many Hungarian functions with various other Hungarian clergy. It became obvious to me that many people did not know very much about our congregation. This report allows me to share a few facts. We take pride in saying that we are the 4th oldest Hungarian Reformed congregation established in the United States. The church was started in 1894 and the Rev. Alexander Kalassay was the first pastor. Other notable pastors have been, Rev. Ernő Komjáthy, Rev. Stephen Harsanyi, Rev. Alexander Ludman and Rev. Emil Nagy. This year marks the 88th year of service by this congregation in the Bridgeport area. The spiritual life of our congregation has always reflected a strong Calvinist tradition tempered by an awareness that we must also minister to the younger generation. This spirit we owe to the very forward looking ministry by Rev. Emil Nagy who was able to blend the best of these two worlds.
