80 BETHLEN NAPTÁR Our Ladies Aid had been busy with their noodle making project and they sponsored several bingo parties which have been most successful. They take care of the kitchen for the annual bazaar and all the dinners. They do a wonderful job. Our Sunday School’s new superintendent is Mrs. M. Gordon. The Sunday School is doing very well under her supervision. The annual Sunday School picnic held on the church grounds was a grand success. Our men made the ‘kolbász’ for Christmas, Easter and the bazaar. They made close to six thousand pounds this year. As we mentioned before, they labored all year renovating and rebuilding whatever needed to be done. Our dartball team won the League Championship for the 1978-79 season. All of our groups participated in the work of promoting our annual bazaar. Our youth did a wonderful job in this area. It was a most rewarding project. We had two golden wedding anniversaries celebrated with the renewal of their marriage vows in the sanctuary. They were Mr. and Mrs. Charles Grennes and Mr. and Mrs. John Chizer. Statistics fom September 1978 through September 1979: 1 baptism, 4 confirmands, 2 marriages, 2 deaths, 2 transferred out and 1 new member received. We give ‘Thanks’ unto God for all that was accomplished. HAMMOND, INDIANA — Pastor: Rt. Rev. Arpad L. Beretz The year 1979 had its high and low points as is usual in everyday living. The low point in the life of the congregation was the pastor’s disability beginning in January when he was hospitalized in Chicago and also Hinsdale, 111. He is now rapidly recovering after treatments in the Bronson Hospital Investigational Unit in Kalamazoo, Michigan where he is a “guineapig” for a new Swedish medicine being tested by the Upjohn Company. The program is called “Prostaglandin E-l in Symtematic Peripheral Vascular Disease”. The pastor has been able to perform most of his duties the last few months, but was greatly assisted in the beginning by his daughter, the Rev. Margaret Beretz and his son-in-law, the Rev. Donald Kelley. The Rev. Margaret was ordained to the Christian Ministry on April 8, 1979 in our church by the Rt. Rev. Bishop John Butosi and other clergy. Her father delivered the sermon for this occasion. A beautiful new pulpit robe was presented to the Rev. Margaret as a gift from the Ladies’ Aid Society of the church. A congregational dinner in honor of the new minister followed the worship service. Reverend Margaret was called by the church to be associate pastor during the illness of her father. She and her husband, Rev. Kelley accepted a call from St. John’s United Church of Christ, Chesterton, Indiana and began their duties there on October 1, 1979. Since July 1, 1978 when we began construction of the new church parsonage on our church property, until the completion and dedication on May
