174 BETHLEN ALMANAC IV REFORMED CHURCH IN AMERICA OUR CHURCHES NEW BRUNSWICK, New Jersey — Pastor: Dr. Andrew Kosa By the time this Almanac appears this congregation will be in the midst of a large scale building program. The last congregational meeting approved the latest plans. The new parish house will serve purely religious functions. It will have 17 Sunday School classrooms with movable walls. Separate rooms will be provided for the Consistory, Women’s organizations and the choir. Should the need arise the old parsonage will be used for the various organ­izations. Construction will be completed in the spring of 1960. Our Women’s organization is now working on its second donation of $10,000. The Women’s Guild, Sewing Circle and Men’s Group have all made $2,000 pledges. Three choirs of young people are led by Mr. Andrew Kormány. Every Sunday from 30 to 40 young people lead the siging at the English service. 23 young people were comfirmed on May 3 after completing 3 years of catechetical study. The pastor attended the meeting of General Synod at Buck Hills Falls. He serves on the International Affairs Committee. He is also chaplain to the County Jail. In the past year 20 infants were baptised, 10 couples were wed, 21 breth­ren were buried. Income—$39,481.31. Expenses $36,282.11. $40,008.10 is on deposit in banks for the new building’s construction. SOUTH RIVER, N. J. — Pastor: Rev. Emil Varga The church has a tape recorder which was donated by Mr. and Mrs. Frank Benedict, church members. Sunday and holiday services are recorded, and are then taken to the sick and shut-ins by the pastor. The Sunday School makes good use of its sound motion picture projector, showing films on missions and other church related films. We also have a slide projector, which is used not only in the Sunday School, but is also taken into the homes of the sick and shut-ins by the pastor along with the tape recorder on which the pastor has recorded the text of the slides in Hungarian. New white colonial pews have replaced the former old pews in the church, made possible the members of the congregation who gave them Confirmation Class with Dr. Andrew Kosa, Pastor.
