V PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH IN THE U.S. CENTRAL FLORIDA (Eagle Lake) — Pastor: Rev. Louis G. Novak It is estimated that between 500 and 800 families move to Florida daily. Among these many people are those who have worked hard and upon reaching retirement age long for the pleasant climate of sunny Florida. Many of these retired people coming to central Florida are those of our good Magyars who have toiled and saved for this very day. Rev. Louis G. Novak, formerly pastor of Elyria, Ohio, realizing that “Man does not live by bread alone” nor by sunshine, decided upon the request of many people to organize a congregation where our good people could worship God in the language of their birth. The congregation was organized in January 1958 and is now officially a member of the Westminster Presbytery. An appropriate observance of the first anniversary was held on January 4th at which time Dr. Francis Újlaki of Pompano Beach, Fla. was the speaker. The official installation of the pastor took place on March 12th in the Lakeland First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Újlaki preaching the magyar sermon. An installation banquet followed at which Rev. Gabriel Dokus of Lake Worth, Fla. was the speaker. Services are held for the magyar people of central Florida every Sunday morning at 11 o’clock. People attend church from Sarasota, Tampa, Plant City, Lakeland, Winter Haven and surrounding communities. The work is continually growing and as our people reach retirment age, there is a constant flow of new members joining our congregation. The congregation has a sizeable amount in its Building Fund for the purpose of acquiring land and building a church home here in central Florida. Mr. William Bodnar is president of the congregation and Mrs. William Bodnar president of the Women’s Circle with Mrs. Novak advisor to this group. All inquiries concerning the work of the magyar congregation may be addressed to the pastor: Rev. Louis G. Novak, Box 15, Eagle Lake, Florida. Central Florida Congregation. HAMMOND, La. — Pastor: Rev. Alexander Bartus. No report was received.
