Church digest for our second and third generations
206 BETHLEN NAPTÁR BROWNSVILLE, PA. The well-liked pastor of this church is the Rev. Victor Bodnar, under whose guidance the congregation has flourished spiritually and financially. The church and parsonage were remodeled recently and a lot purchased on which a recreation building will be erected. DAISYTOWN, PA. is a congregation of Hungarian coal miners, having a fine church and parsonage of its own. For many years their honored pastor has been the Rev. Alexander Silay, who has been doing outstanding missionary work among our people. The church will celebrate its 35th anniversary soon, while the Ladies Aid observed its silver jubilee in 1951. ELLWOOD CITY, PA. is one of our smallest congregations, whose church is located at Ellport, Pa., served by the pastor of the Beaver Falls, congregation. FARRELL, PA. Recently the congregation sold its old church and parsonage and relocated in a more suitable neighborhood. A new parsonage was purchased first and a completely new church building is now nearing completion. All these historical events have taken place under the forceful leadership of the Rev. William Furjesz (Furgess) pastor. LEECHBURG, PA. The fortieth anniversary of this church was celebrated in 1951. The parsonage was remodeled. In the last few years, under the fine leadership of the Rev. Eugene Galantai, the congregation has developed spiritually and financially. It is the hope of this congregation that the church might be relocated in a more suitable section of town. PHILADELPHIA, PA. In this large city, this is the only Hungarian church of our faith. The members live in widely scattered sections of the city, but love their church and support it along with the Bethlen Home, which is one of their outstanding benevolences. Their pastor, the Rev. Nicholas Pazar holds together his flock by frequent pastoral visits. PRICEDALE, PA. This is a small church group of a few miners’ families, served bimonthly by the pastor of the Brownsville Church. Though a small group, they are proportionately large contributors to our charitable work. AURORA-ELGIN, ILL. These affiliated churches have been served for many years by the Rev. Michael Dezső Kovach, who guides his congregation in the American-way-of-life and has many fine connections whith the local American churches. He is a talented novelist, whose writings have appeared in the Bethlen Almanac yearly.
