Bethlen Naptár, 1950 (Ligonier)
To our second generation. Superindent's semi-annual report
BETHLEN NAFTÁK 235 We provide three regular meals a day and a snack after school at four o’clock. Provision is made for the spiritual care of our young and old guests through morning and evening devotions, Sunday services in our chapel, Sunday School and summer vacation Bible School for the children, the administration of the Lord’s Supper to all, including the sick. Everyone receives medical care when needed. Regular periodic check-ups are given. During the first six months, 12 of our children had chicken pox, 4 had sore throats, one had mastoiditis, while one child had to undergo an electrical cardiogram. All children recovered quickly. Our old folks had more physical complaints, due, of course, to their advanced years. We have three permanent invalids, all bed-ridden; 20 others had to have medical aid, while four of these needed hospitalization. Because of our increased enrollment, as well as the advanced years of our old guests, we realize that greater medical expenses will have to be met in the future. With this in mind, we are sure that our many friends will continue their sacrificial giving, thus insuring the best care for all guests of the Bethlen Home. DISCIPLINE AND WORK Our children and old folks both abided by the regulations which must be made in order to keep a well-disciplined and orderly home. No one committed any serious offense for which he might have been reprimanded. In addition to the housekeeping done by our employees, our older girls and boys, as well as some old folks, lend a willing hand in order that our homes might be kept in cleanliness and order. Two of our older boys and five of our old men willingly helped in the farm work during the very busy summer season. The local schools closed the first week of June. Our children were delighted at the thought of a well-earned summer vacation. Their report cards showed that they all did the very best they could, using their individual talents supplemented by the training received at the Bethlen Home. Each child passed to the next higher grade. Two of them completed their high school work: Gizella and Robert Szabad, both of whom lived at the Bethlen Home for the past 16 years. They are now going out into life on their own. God bless both young people richly and may they find much happiness and contentment in life. REPAIRS, INVESTMENTS, SPECIAL EVENTS Many repairs had to be made on our buildings and on our farm. Much work and money went into the building of the chapel tower where the “Molnár Bell” was housed.
