LIFE IN OUR HOMES Our Bethlen Home has in the past four years, as well as in previous years, tried to be a “Good Samaritan” and we feel that as was humanly possible, it has succeeded. At very frequent intervals, requests come to us to help old and young alike. Bethlen Home, through the patient help of its Board of Managers, analyzes all cases and tries not to turn away anyone worthy of help. During the past four years (from January 1, 1944 to December 31, 1947) we took care of 63 children for longer or shorter periods of time. This number included 39 boys and 24 girls. Of these, 53 were of the Reformed faith, 8 were Roman Catholics, 1 was a Lutheran, while 1 was a Baptist. 20 children were full orphans, 28 were half orphans, while 15 were left without proper homes. During these four years, 33 children left our institution either because they reached 18 years of age and were ready to go out into life or because the parents or guardians were ready to take up their further care. On December 31, 1947, the enrollment was 30. During the past four years, 4 children received education at colleges, 14 attended the high school, 39 attended the elementary school and kindergarten, while 6 were of pre-school age.
