Ez a sok féleképpen köpeny forgató korhadt rendszer, a melyben a nemtörődömség és tudatlanságunk miatt kell szenvednünk, kénytelen vagyok tollat fogni és önökhöz intézni e sorokat, hogy cselekedjünk már valamit a saját érdekünkbe. Tévedjünk el egyszer bátorsággal elindulni arra, az igazi útra, a mely a dolgozó emberiség javára van megállapítva. Hisz már elég lehetne mindenkinek ebből a kapitalista pro- fitos rendszerből, a kapitalista csak annyit bocsájt a dolgozó nép közzé, mint a dr. a betegbe a szérumot. Még a barom is tudja, hogy mikor elég az igahuzásból, de a világ munkássága nem akarja tudni, hogy már elég lehetne a rabszolgaságból és igahuzásból és a kapitalistákból, hogy már egyszer ki lehetne cserélni a rendszert. Még sosem volt olyan alkalom, hogy komolyan bele gondolhassunk saját helyzetünkbe mint most van. Már öt éve a nélkülözés és a kizsákmányolás eléggé megterhelte a középosztályt is nem csak a szegény munkást. így hát mindenki tudhatja, hogy mi a profit rendszer. Mostani helyzetébe még a tanítóknak is feltűnik a rendkívüli túlzott graftelések. Magam is részt veszek az esti iskolában és amint olvastam a governmentekről, a tanítónő kezdte magyarázni, hogy a City goverment nem szükséges, hogy egzisztáljon mert, hogy az csak dupla graft a nép terhein, hogy kívánná, ha akadna olyan lény, aki oly okos lenne, hogy nem szavazná meg, inkább leszavazná. És elpanaszolta az osztály előtt, hogy milyen kevés fizetésért kell most neki dolgozni. Viszont megütközött a farmer értékén is. Először elsorolta, hogy a kukorica termelés, milyen fáradtsággal jár, hogy, hogy is adhatja el 5—6 centért fontját a sertésnek. Komolyan mondta, hogy a farmer egészen ingyen dolgozik. De még vagy 8 évvel ezelőtt a tanítóknak sem volt gondolatába, hogy a City government milyen fölösleges a népnek a nyakán, a mig a jó fizetést húzhatta. De még akkor a farmer helyzetére sem terjedt volna ki a figyelme. Hát a tanító is tud sajnálkozni mert belátja, hogy minden ferdén van. De azért ezt nem ismertetné a tanítványaival, hanem tanítja, hogy hajdanába Thomas Jefferson három centért vásárolta a földnek akerját. Hát lehet látni azóta hová fejlődött a kizsákmányolás és a profitrendszer. A kapitalista megfizet egy néhányat csak azért, hogy a munkásságnak a gondolatait félre vezethessék, hogy ne legyen alkalmuk arra gondolni, hogy miért is kell nekik dolgozni ingyen egy életen keresztül a kapitalisták javára. Tehát mtársak, meddig akarják még ezt a kelepce életet. És meddig hagyjuk magunkat mindenféle fékerektől félrevezetni, szomorú, hogy a világ munkássága nem gondolkozik a saját helyzetével. Inkább rábízza a kapitalistákra, mint a fabábu a hasbeszélőre. És akkor hozzátéve azt a közmondást, hogy sosem volt még úgy, hogy valahogy ne lett volna. És ezzel meg van oldva minden. Mtársak nekünk van gondolkodó képességünk, foglalkozzunk komolyan a saját érdekeinkkel, ne bízzuk azt másra, szervezkedjünk s tömörüljünk Egy Nagy Ipari Szervezetbe. A munkásság nem akar észre térni és komolyan belegondolni az életbe, hogy mért is kínlódik. Miért kell félni és fügni valakitől akinek hasznot hajt. Miért nem élhet nyugodtan és szabadon mikor ép olyan joga van az élethez mint a kapitalistáknak. Ha megtudták teremteni a földi menyországot a kapitalistáknak, mért nem tudnánk a saját részünkre is. Nem vagyunk oly hibás elmé- jüek, hogy meg nem tudnánk érteni, hogy mit is jelent az Elvi Nyilatkozat. A munkás és a munkáltató osztály között semmi közösség nincsen. Nem lehet béke mindaddig a mig éhség és nélkülözés található a dolgozó emberek milliói között, s az élet összes javait ama kevesek bírják akikből a munkáltató osztály áll. E két osztály között küzdelemnek kell folynia mind addig, mig a világ munkásai, mint osztály szervezkednek, birtokukba veszik a földet, a termelő eszközöket és megszüntetik a bérrendszert. Ne halasszuk tehát, hogy minél előbb írhassuk ezt a jelszót a zászlónkra LE A BÉRRENDSZERREL. Dearborn Mich. Mrs. Judith Sike. Girard Ave. Through centuries of social ' evolution, the mass of the wealth has been concentrated in the hands of a few indivi- 1 duals. These few individuals have control of the machines of production and distribution consequently they control pol itics, the press and society ir general. In order that few may control society, they are doing everything in their power to deceive the working class, making use of all their facilities of education to keep the work ers under dark clouds of ingnor ance. One of their most effici ent machines in abling to keep the workers ignorant is the press. The press moulds public1 opinion very effectively. What, happened during the Wort: War? The press cried, “Kill the Huns; they eat babies for breakfast, etc.” Screaming headlines were flashed around the World every day about how the Grand Army of the Unite ! States had made another victorious attack. Did the press mention the horrors of war? No! They forgot to tell how the unenlightened slaves of the master class were spilling each others “guts” upon the bloody battle fields of Europe. The press told the workers lies; effecting public opinion to such an extent that the people became fanatical and ran in the streets shouting to the World at large their fantastic ideas concerning the war and declaring their patriotism. Those workers who dared to speak a word against the war were clubbed, tarred and feathered, and in many instances hanged; hanged because they dared :o speak the truth. Workers believe what they read in newspapers! This fact has been proved time and time again by the research work of the different labor organizations. For example, there was a strike in Detroit and each of the three leading newspapers had different conceptions of the strike. It was found that the workers who read these three leading papers differed widely in their opinions because the statements in the papers were misleading. This misguidance of the people has caused them to have an unsympathetic atitude towards different labor organizations; the IWW for example. In one instance, the local paper, under capitalist ruling in Centralia, Washington, during Centralia case, came out with bold headlines stating that they had received a report to the effect that the IWW WERE MANUFACTURING BOMBS, with the intention of blowing 1 up the Court House and in that way freeing the class war prisoners. When in realty, no such thing was happening. However, they had a clever way of covering up this deliberate lie. They said that it was only a report. Report or no report, the workers took it at face value. It is lies like these that break up labor organizations, such as IWW. Public opinion is one of the greatest hinderances in labor movement. There are many kinds of theories expressed and organizations in existence that are fighting for supremacy. So many, in fact, that the average worker is greatly confused. He doesn’t know what or how to think. Some- wellknown Proffesor says one thing and some economist explains the same in a different way. That is what the capitalist press wants and that is what is has succeeded so far in getting. Keeping the workers in confusion and the truth suppressed. The capitalists own practic- aly all the World’s wealth and it is easy to realize that they also own or have in their control the press and other facilities of education. In this case, the capitalists’ press is a prostitute press resorts to all sorts of frenzied logic and intellectual imposition in order to pit one set of workers against another in all disputes. They most aotrageously plead the cause of the oppressed; they pretend to be sympathetic to the “dear suffering public’” and the deception is so great that only due to the lack of education can intelligent human beings be so blinded. The workers must be helped out of this oblivion of lies, they must be educated to realize their real economic importance in society. The only presses that can, and will, penetrate to the same judgement of the working classes, are those that have public interest at heart; such as The Industrial Worker, Bérmunkás, Industrialist!, etc., published by the “Industrial Workers of the World.” It is only papers like these that deliberately point out to the worker that which they otherwise fail to see, THE TRUTH, which will see the dawn of a new Social and Industrial Democracy.
