December 18. BÉRMUNKÁS 3-ik oldal JUNIOR COLUMN AZ OLVASÓK KÖRÉBŐL TO BUILD CHARACTER ORGANIZE Mr. and Mrs. Lang had two ] stalwart sons, aged twenty-one and eighteen respectively. Bob and Jimmy had had a brother, Eugene, years ago. Eugene, even in his infancy* was never been very strong. He was always having some sort of illness that would weaken him phisically and frighten his parents very much. What he really needed was good food, plenty of health-giving and lung purifying air; air that had the essence of red pine; and a bed of pine boughs made soft so that one could sink into its depths and rest a weary and toil-worn body also, breathe in a smokeless and cinderless atmosphere. Since these were denied Eugene, the merciless visitor, f. B. took him without a struggle. Bob would not and could not forget that money was the most prevalent factor needed in this: game of life and death his parents lacking in this, must allow the feeble flame of life to be snuffed out altogether. Bob remembered, and he tought of this at every meeting of the IWW which he attended and his active brain was ever on the alert for ways and means by which to strengthen this organization that had accomu- lished such wonders in stretching his field of thought and urging him to do greater deedds of kindness and good-will among his fellow-men. Bob’s parents and neighborhood associates were absolutely opposed to his membership in the IWW. They thought it Was blaspheming God when they heard of some of the things that ignorant people think the IWW organization does; such as that is foolish to give thanks to God for food, shelter, clothing, etc. because their is no God, as the majority of the people believe him to be, and if there isn’t, how Can he bestow on people all the things which they in their ignorance,_ pray for things wich they themselves have toiled so hard to grow food, shelter, clothing and other commodities that are essential to civilization. In return for the work that the Workers themselves turn out, they receive a very, very , meager stipend with which they can purchase a miniature portion of what all workers have helped produce. THE CAPITALIST GET AND THEY TOIL NOT! These people think it sacrilege to cease believing in the man, the one “GREAT BEING” whom they think- is the Creator of mankind and the receiver of “Pure Souls”, In this slum district where Bob Arn and their parents lived, their was a “Gang” of rough-necks with wich Jim traveled. Jim was 1 spoiled by his ’ parents and brought-to-hand by Bob, causing a great deal of confusion at all times. They two. Bob and Jim, worked with Mr. Lang in a Paper Box Factory during the day and in the evenings Jim had “dates” with girl, ‘‘friends”? .... or else, loitered on corners, in pool-rooms or other hang-outs. Bob was beginning to slacken his vigil in keeping Jim “in hand” thinking it a thankless taslc while Jim Was going from bad to worse in his efforts to please the leader .of the “Gang”. One night Bob was returning , from, a meeting of the IWW. As he turned from the main highway into his own street, it was more like a road, he saw, to his wonderment that a police patrol was parked near the entrance of his home. Upon further investigation, he found to his astonisment that it was his own residence that was so carefully guarded. With no little show of annoyance, he dart- j ed up the steps and was balked i by a burly officer of the law who commanded him to halt. His mother made her sorrow- I ful appearance and after a great , deal of hysterical weeping. Bob gathered that Jim had been used I as a tool in a little hold-up staged by the “Gang”. This other four accomplices got away with a small sum of money, but this being the first job that Jim was “in-on” made him nervous and at the most crucial moment he found himself rooted to the spot, unable to make good his escape at the sound of a policeman’s whistle. After a hectic night the rest of the family was escorted, under cover of sixfierce looking firearms, to the scene of Jim’s trial where he was found guilty. They acquitted him with second degree murder because he had been caught with the ‘‘gat.’’ Result is that Jim has now been in H...........Prison, the largest Prison House in Pennsylvania, for three months and he has nine more month to serve. Bob is supporting his stricken parents and is loyally attending every meeting of the IWW, j striving manfully to reform the I ways and manners of his old friends and helping new friends to set their feet on the “Road to Success” wich leads to our organization. By joining the Organization they are molding their own characters and are helping to strengthen the foundation of the Organization. Anna Zsámár. Tisztelt Munkástársak! Ha van alkalmam Ígéretemhez beszámolok az itteni eseményekről. Már párszor megírtam az itteni tarthatatlan ipari viszonyokat, — melyek még csak jobban fokozódnak. Ott az Easten azzal állnak elő a kizsákmányolok, hogy csak azért súlyosbodik a helyzet, mert tél van. Itten ez az érvük is megdől, mert itt nincs tél és mégis a nyomortól fázik a munkásosztály nagy tömege. Csak természetes, hogy agitáció közben rámutatunk a kivezető útra, melyet az IWW eszméje nyiltan elénk tár. Elismerik ezt az értelmesen gondolkozó munkások, csak azok vetnek gáncsot a szervezkedésnek, akiknek egész múltjuk és jelenük szélhámoskodáson alapszik. Egy ilyen alak van itten, akit az álkommunisták a keblükre öleltek és valóban illik is hozzájuk. Ez a Neumann Andor, aki elárulta saját szervezetét az IWW-t, amikor titkár volt, aki zsebrevá— got ezer dollárt a Bérmunkás pénztárából, most ez mer még szót kiejteni az IWW szervezete ellen, fascista szervezetnek nevezni minket. Ahogyan igaz az, hogy “madarat a tolláról, embert a barátjáról’’ lehet megismerni, úgy valóban hozzáillik őkelme a tolvaj társasághoz, ahol eddigi babérait még csak kamatoztatni is lesz alkalma. Ott vannak a fék doktorok, az élősdi újságírók, zugügyvédek egy táborban, igaz, hogy most már kezdenek egymás között marakodni a koncon. Itt küldök adatokat a Károlyi-féle bizottság munkájáról, tisztán látható, hogy az egész Károlyi-féle akció csak pénzszerzésre volt alapítva és alaposan Jaemarkoltak a Los Angelesi munkások zsebébe. Alkalomadtán használják majd fel hadd lássák az ország minden részében, hogy milyen csaló társaság van itt letelepedve. A magam részéről mindent elkövetek ,hogy az IWW tanait tovább hirdessem és ha utamba kerülnek ezek az alakok, a jövőben into the IWW they could win economic security forever and live as real men should live. Nem lehetünk kíméletesek azokkal szemben, ----akik mint árulók és csalók, további hivatásukat akarják folytatni a munkásmozgalomban. Mi, akik hosszú évek óta kitartunk az lWr^V mellett, csak megelégedéssel vehetjük, hogy nem ugráltunk ide-oda, hanem megálltuk a sarat az árulókkal szemben és ha azok uj talajra is találtak az álkommunisták körében, nem fog már sokáig tartani. Az árulóknak és csalóknak csak pusztulás lehet a sorsuk és ha el is jöttek háromezer mértföldet attól a helytől, ahol már üzérkedéseiket jól ismerték a munkások, itt is rajtuk ütünk és felvilágosítjuk a munkásokat, hogy tartsák távol magukat a los-angelesi díszes társaságtól. A naptárak megérkeztek és a terjesztéséhez már hozzá is fogtam. G. Bakos.---------o--------Bronx, N. Y. dec. 12. Ellenségeink mindenáron azt akarják bizonyítani, hogy mi mái nem létezünk! Mi ezen erőlködésükön kénytelenek vagyunk mosolyogni, — mert legalább százszor Írták már, hogy az IWW nem létezik és még is minduntalan velünk foglalkoznak. Az emberek sok mindent meg tud érteni, de azt, hogy egy nem létező egyénnel vagy szervezettel hogy lehet valakiknek mindig bajuk, ezt csak a mi politikus jóakaróink tudnák megmondani. De mivel hogy nem szavahihető egyének, igy senkí- sem kockáztatja meg, hogy kérdést intézzen hozzájuk ,mert úgy sem mondanának igazat. Mi nagyon jól emlékszünk arra, amikor először beharangozták “nem létezésünket ", persze akkor is úgy vettük, mint ma. Azóta már több bérharcot vezettünk és majdnem mindegyiket sikeresen a munkásság előnyére. Óh, igen, mi megtudjuk érteni ,hogy útjába vagyunk nem a munkásságnak, hanem a munkásság félrevezetőinek és útjukban fogunk maradni továbbra is és ráfogunk mutatni a jövőben is a gyalázatos üzérkedésükre. Megfogjuk világítani a munkásság előtt a jövőben is, hogy mennyire helytelen az ő kiabálásuk és mennyire káros a munkásosztály részére. Amit a munkásság meg fog érteni és akkor majd jogosan használják a fent említett kedvenc szavukat, csakhogy akkor majd saját magukra kell, hogy mondják, hogy megszűntünk. Aminek a munkásság majd csak örülni fog, hogy megszabadult a történelemben ezideig nem található — munkásköntösbe bujt aljas csalóktól. Még máma van egy néhány jóhiszemű munkás, akiket félrevezetni tudnak és velük együtt kórusban kiáltják, hogy feszítsd meg az IWW-t. — Hangsúlyozzák, hogy ekkor meg akkor jó szervezet volt és még a tagjai most is forradalmárok, (Folytatás a 7-ik oldalon.)
